Oh don't get me wrong I'd rather have a dog I can count on to do the job right and I usually like having a dog with a medium to smaller mouth because we don't have many woods without a house within a mile or so around here and it only takes waking a land owner one time at 3am on a weeknight to loose your permission fast but I've handled a few dogs that the smarts and decent drive I look for and won a lot of casts with but if there was one thing I could change about them it would have been there mouth but your right that could be fixed with the right cross but getting a pup out of the cross with the mouth and style that doesn't die before we can really breed it or put it in many hunts has been one tough objective...for us anyway

I like a dog that is competitive. I have hunted dogs that put you in the winners circle different ways. The dogs that have most consistently won their cast for me have been loud, independent, accurate and tight mouthed. A dog that barks to much will keep a pack on his tails all the time and a quick locating dog will get a tree on you. A dog that is independent wins or looses by himself and doesn't get as much pressure as dogs that pack.

I want a dog that wants to go hunting. Want him to be able to push a track with company or alone. I want to hear him not wonder if that's my dog with the others. I want one that isn't going to run from company or his or her tree from dogs being there or dogs wanting to be aggressive. That is a fine line I Know but that's what it takes to win. Stay Treed! On Track I don't want to hear a bunch of barking I like to hear a dog move out opening with good distance between barks. I want one that isn't going to be 2 before he is ready to hunt or be interested. I have had many of these in the past years. Raised a lot of Pups been very aggravated with trying to find one like this. Only to cull it or give it away as a pet.
