One of the dogs that I trained when I was in high school was the Boss dog. He was out of Mo who was out of Hussler and Dixie and his mother was out of Hammer V. He liked the speed beef but he was a hard going hound with a huge mouth. I took him one night in WV with Vaughn Miller and Vaughn said if that was my dog I'd shoot him. I laughed and said wait till next year as we only hunted together about 3 weeks out of the year. The next year I loaded up my Gr Nt Minnie female and Boss who I had by then made a Nt Ch. We treed a couple coon in a short time and they did a nice job. Vaughn ask me where I had gotten that male dog. I looked at him and said "you remember the dog that you told me you'd shoot last year, and he said "yeah", I said "well that is the same dog". You should have seen the look on his face. lol. The next spring Boss drowned in a spring. Chuck Crain from New Lexington, Ohio was on the cast the night I finished Boss and wrote about him in his Zone article. I was one proud young man when I saw that. Good memories.
