Great looking hound

I like the look of this saddle back. I wonder what all registries he would meet the breed standard for color? Seems he might meet at least 3 breeds. Leopard, Black and Tan and Walker maybe? Could he meet Redbone too?
Sure looks like a hound.

hitan

That is what I call a HiTan or saddleback. Wonder what his pedigree looks like.

Too much red to meet the Black and Tan standards. Too much Black to be a Redbone. Not enough white to be Walker. Might be able to be an English or a Leopard not sure.

Thanks for the pic it's what I was looking for .

My Male HighTan

The older my male dog gets, the more Red he gets.
He is an awesome coonhound! I have raised him and trained him myself. I sold his female litter mate to a man in North Carolina.

On his mothers side he goes back to our female Brooks' Redbrook Belle who was the mother to WrongWay Billy I believe... I would have to look that up to be sure... I know she was the mother to one of the WrongWay dogs.

He is a great looking male. His mind is wonderful. He is super easy to handle.
He is a huge male with a BOOMING mouth. Bawl on Track. HUGE Bawl Locate... which rolls over to a Chop on Tree. Can hear him for miles!
I wish he was all RED so I could of Registered him. He would make a great one!

bloodhound

I would say that one has some bloodhound genes in it . I think that is how the old time High Tans showed up. Thanks for the pic Danny.

Found this on the Walker Board

Maybe it isn't bloodhound folks? Check out the dog on the left. Does that meet the saddleback standard? lol

My granddad was born in 1919. He coonhunted well into the 1960's. When I started hunting, and brought around my first redbone pup he told me about the high tans he remembered that he called, "redbone".

He said he didn't ever see an all red redbone till well into the 50's. The most of his dogs looked like Black and Tans and so did a lot of the other, "breeds". He was a coal miner and never went anywhere to breed any females. His stuff was all from whoevers was local and good.

I just think its a cool part of our hound hunting heritage to see these dogs pop up from time to time.

Hey Kelly,

I watched this last night and it looks like one of the dogs is a high tan. You only see a few seconds of him but he sure looks like it. Pretty cool video. You see him at 2:28, 3:03, 3:30, 3:49 and a few other places.

Evidently this is a new internet hunting show.

Lately I've seen something like high tan in some Leopard Hound pics . Maybe it comes with a little more mixture .
