14 months isn't that old. give it some more time. as they get older they can become more confident. a few months can make a big difference.

I had a female that was very independant and would tree til u get close and leave she would have the coon 95% of the time.she was outta a top stud dog today.but talked to other that had litter mate to her they wouldnt stay hooked either she had all the tool to be a winner male dog mouth very independant and acc.we tried every thing under the sun to try and fix this problem.but atleast yours is at the tree when u get there dont give up on him yet good luck with it

Well, I got frustrated and sent him to the coon dog graveyard. NOT! I just got in from a somewhat productive night with my pup. He treed on a tree with a possum. I petted him up some because he was barking, but didn't give him the possum. We sent them on and he got by himself again and treed on a tree tht crossed the creek. I tied him back and he even chopped for a while. He was very fired up about it and I was too! We looked on the other side where the tree crossed and couldn't find a coon. I took him to the other side and he treed on a tree beside the log that crossed. No coon, but he chopped and stayed fired up about that too. If I can get him with a coon and he trees like he did tonight where he pulled up short on track, I think it will be a great turning point.

Biggun, I had a male dog when I was a kid that did the same thing. He would tree hard for about 15 t0 20 min and if you didn't get to him quick he would pull off the tree and come back. If you could get to him before he left he would meet you on the way in and then go back to the tree. I even had him leave the tree a few times and be looking at a coon with no dog. I finally started hunting him with an old female dog that would stay on the tree and I would lead him back to the tree. I tied him back and popped a few out to the old female and it took forever and was very frustrating but he ended up making one of the best tree dogs I ever had once he got settled in.

I didmt mean you are yelling at the dog. I meant you wont get yelled at by people for coonhunting if they cant hear your dog barking.

No ear problems. I have a lab that used to have ear problems regularly. I clean his ears on a regular basis and my coon dog falls in line for the cleaning as well. He barked plenty last night. I believe I'm goin to have to say the tying him back is working some magic. Did very well last night. I believe tying him back and a little more spent shoe leather might get him where he needs to be.

I tried that also hoot and u could get a few yards from her and she wd leave and tree another one if she wd have stayed u wd have seen her in all the books in the winners circle. But it happens i hunted her for 6 mth after and she done the same every time so i give up lol
