I don't care what anybody says around here a dead loner that makes two trees in a hunt will win 80 percent of their cast. I have one that is a dead loner and will have a coon when he trees and love him the best part about moe is he putting the same trait in his pups !!! The ones that don't like them has never had one with a big motor that can fly on track or they wouldn't say they don't like them !!!!

There is a fine line between independent and independent to a fault. I have owned both. Independent hounds usually will tree with other hounds right out of the box.
The independent to a fault hounds usually don't like other dogs period. Most of the time they have an ill temperament. They work hard the first 5 minutes to get away from dogs and will pass up coons to do it. Those kind usually are very "mad" when something does cover them.
I prefer one that when dogs pull up short, be setting treed a little farther with the coon. That is the independence you win with.
Accuracy over independence for me. But if you get one that's both, you have a big time winner.
