Lastnight, at Mt Vernon Illinois I was judging. LOL I took my minus no problem. Only 8 minutes left in the hunt. I was leading the cast until then. LOL It's just part of it.

Freddy,you r correct that's the way it is......reading some of these post and threads make you wonder about some folks knowledge of the rules......how is yogi doing...
A few weeks back I drew out with a 13 year old girl, her dad was driving her and was listed as a back up handler. I got a ride with these folks and they seemed nice but the father was very cocky and I could tell that he really wasn't too knowledgable on the rules just from the stories he was telling on the way to the woods. The guy holding the card also didn't really know them too well either (club error IMO) and seemed very flustered to be judging. The fourth member of the cast was a younger fellow and was really trying to be honest throughout the cast.
The first drop the young girl struck her dog, and then quickly treed it (it wasn't treed or really even close to being) and the other young man suggested that her dog was moving. The judge agreed (so did I but I didnt say anything, was just kind of amused to watch all this play out) and her dog was minused. Her father pitched a fit and decided to take over handling the dog. Every single drop the rest of the night her dad gave us some kind of trouble and believed he was in the right when you could plainly turn the card around and read the rules.
It really sucks that hes out there teaching his kid to be this way. She walked along the entire time and witnessed her father acting like a real jackass & believing he was doing the right thing.

I was winning a cast last night i was judgeing on the last drop i strike for 25 two dogs get treed my dog and another female went on the two dogs treed were slick we had six minutes left the other two guys decided not to turn to our dogs 30 secs left in the hunt my gyp and the other were right together on track my dog locates and i tree her the other dog went on we get to my tree its slick and the coon was sitting in a tree next to where my gyp treed the tips of the limbes touch but just the tips the other dog came in after we got there and was handeled the guy that won the cast and the other two cast mimbers say plus it and let's go i told them my dog is minused she missed lafted we singed the card give it to the winner shook his hand and we split the truth is the truth i could havee took that win but i wouldn't have felt good about it
About thirteen years ago or so I was at a hunt I had the card a mans dog treed on a real nice big oak. We could see the whole tree when he was done i said you are minused the tree is slick. He said you wouldn't circle your dog on it?? I said know there is no palce of refuge or a coon it is minus. Than he told me that he was a arborist and he knew trees and there was a hole in that tree somewhere. lol I said show me it and I will circle it. I never will forget that quote. Some guys will make any excuse to not minus there dog. I will be the first to minus mine.

THATS WHAT IT ALL ABOUT,,,HONESTY...I WOULD RATHER SLEEP GOOD AT NIGHT THAN LOOK AT A DOG OR TROPHY THAT I DIDNT EARN...GOOD POST.

i went to a hunt down in logan co wv,first drop my dog slicked and i took my minus,se3cond drop 1 hour got him and found him slick again,woulda took my minus there too bit the hour got em

That's the truth, I quit making excuses for them a long time ago but I'll fight for him when I know he is right and somebody is trying to cheat. That's another subject but yes I'll take my minus and laugh about it cause it's all about the fun.

Whenever I judge an my dog makes a mistake ill be the first one to minus him. If he slick trees he's getting minused an if he comes back he's minused.
You all won't never hunt with a more honest guy than me.
I read the rule book all the time and make sure I know the rules.

I started back hunting about a year ago. Put hunting on hold to follow the kids with their youth sporting events. I didn't want to take them hunting when they were too young and burn them out. Now, I have three boys with the two oldest that are crazy about hunting.
I have no shortage of handlers LOL. My oldest is sixteen and will be handling in the hunts. He has really grasped the competition part of hunting. Good thing I am the non-hunting judge on our "weekday backyard" competition hunts. These boys are competitive and love hunting against each other.
It should be a lot of fun watching them the next few years.

I have no problem taking a minus.Nobody ever wants to Judge but when you make a call to minus a slick they out vote you to circle it because a tree 3 trees down has a nest or a little twig touches a pine tree you can see thru.

The cast i was on Saturday was a pretty good cast but they voted to circle their first tree of the night the tree did have a verry small hole it looked to be about 3 inches deep you could tell it didn't go into the tree but you couldn't say that for sure my dog was split on a legit den I'm not saying they did any thang wrong but some pople will take a break any way they can get it i perfer not to lie for mine they won't get a break unless it is legit.
About 5 or 6 years ago in a R.Q.E on a four dog cast first drop the dogs strike a bad track my dog gets treed i had first and first the leafes were starting to come out it was only about a 6 inch tree the other dogs come treed around the hill i look up my tree and say easy come easy go let's go see what the other dogs have i minused my dog we get to their tree and its about 10 inches and slick one guy wants to use all the shine time when time was up i pull the cast together and tell them its minused the guy that wanted to use all the shine time goes into one he had last strike and third tree the other two guys voted to minus the tree the other guy goes on i finaly warned him for arguing at the end of the night he comes to me and says we don't do that where I'm from he was talking about that minus tree and then says can you sleep with that so i tell him where I'm from we tell the truth and yes sir i can sleep like a babby because minusing a slick tree is nothing to loose sleep over we never treed a coon in the cast this guy tried stuff all night the other two guys were honest so it didn't work for him he did qualify later that year i don't know how far he made it but i know he didn't win the world if he can live with hookin and crookin and sleep its no skin off my nose

I just like hunting with a good dog,but if he deserves a minus ,he takes one ,they are only dogs,,most do more good than bad, just be honest about it ,,good or bad..

I think it is funny when a cast circles the first tree of the night and it is a circled slick. Then that tree becomes the reference for scoring all the trees for the rest of the hunt. "Well guys, we circled the first tree and this one isn't worse than that one, so if we circled it, then we need to circle this one."

Andy people like that don't like to draw a honest man because when they see you minus your dog they know if their og slicks their getting it aswell
