HOUNDS

I got my first hound at 7 years old, it just happen to be a redbone female, we are talking 1967, she made a nice dog she was poisened and had to be put downd at 16 months old, at 8 years old I got my next 2 they were redbones, my school bus driver gave me a pair of puppys I got to pick them out of the litter.

I had a few red dogs on and off thru the years but I had and hunted every breed and color known to man and some that were not known,

I raised and hunted mainly blue dogs for a lot of years then eventually went to all walker. Had some good ones,

I switched to strictly redbones 9 years ago, For a couple of reasons but the primary reasons were there wasnt many around, they was what I started with, they seem to be a little behind as far as competition and didnt have a very good reputation as far as ability. Most seem to think they couldnt tree a coon and were show dogs.

by bein the first I started with I have always had a special place in my heart for a reddog, when you are laying in bed and here that rifle crack to end the suffering of the first hound you ever owned its a thought that never goes away.

200 hounds later and a challenge at hand, here I am trying to do what I think is best for the breed that I cherish the most.

That first red dog has been a few years ago, I hope to think I have learned a few things when it comes to hounds,

The last thing I would do is try to tell someone else what to breed and hunt,

I'm not going to tell you what to hunt or breed because to be honest that is only up to you!Just like when Lil' Red was doing some winning all these so called Redbone guys were jumping on the band wagon(for a halfbreed) if she would have won any world hunt or any part of a hunt that stated she won the Redbone part of it,as far as I'm concerned Lil' Red wasn't a Redbone and should not have been High scoring Redbone or anything of that sort!

MR HUSS

If you dont mind me asking how old are you ????

Why do you care what someone else hunts or breeds you are not feeding them or breeding to them?

As for little red I would say she was all coondog red in color and your association approved her as a redbone.

I for one sure wish she would have lived long enough to put some pups on the ground.

No need for descrimination or to be pejudice against anyone for what they choose to do, your so called pure bred redbones maynot be as pure as you think.

I think some folk have nothing better to do than to worry about what somebody might be doin that doesnt have any thing to do with them.

We all have the same destination in the end, and it does not take long to get there, as long as what someone else does dont effect you then I would stay in your lane and worry about you .

Very nicely said Larry. That's a good story right there. That's the kinda stories people should be telling.

Larry, what difference does it make how old Kerry is???
And if everyone felt like you do....why did the association change the rules so that no more half breeds could be single registered and called redbone?
You may not believe this...but more redbone people feel the same way MR. Huss does than feel the way you do.....as evidenced by the majority vote that changed the rule to not allow half breeds. You have stated on this very forum before that you do not want to crossbreed.....so why does what Mr. Huss said bother you...and if it doesn't effect you....why worry about it? Sometimes it is hard to understand where your coming from Larry...because you say yout won't do something yourself....but then you really argue the point so that others can do it. Did you change your mind and now you do want to make a crossbreed? Maybe I missed something somewhere.....

Some people in the redbone breed wanted to claim her as redbone and probably think that she brought a lot of recognition to our breed.....but everyone else knows she was half walker and made it clear that the reason she was as good as she was was because she was half walker. Personally I think she was just one of those freakishly good dogs that come along once every 4 - 6 years....(and most are from purebreds) but what difference does it make when the outside world gave all the credit to the walker side of her....where did that really help the redbon breed? All it did was make a few people who have not had any luck at breeding redbones think that they might be able to crossbreed and produce another one like her....
several other breeds have allowed crossbreeding for years and years.....and yet 99.9% of all dogs winning big and being titled out are purebred dogs.
but people just want to make that .01% seem like a whole lot more than it is. Fact is You never hear about all the crossbreeds that can't tree a coon and are not able to be single registered....you only hear about the ones who do end up making a coon dog. .

I know he doesn't.....and I can assure you that Mr. Huss is a full grown man because I met him last year at a hunt...I think maybe it was National Days.
I wasn't really answering for him....most of what I wrote to you were my own questions to you....

Larry, there is eight years difference in our age and I started comp. hunting at age eight!I really don't care what you breed or hunt, just like I said earlier in this thread.I made a statement that in my eyes Lil' Red was a halfbreed and in this real world we live in a halfbreed is all she was!If everybody else wants to pretend she was a Redbone then thats your buisness!Where I come from an ace of spades is an ace of spades not an ace of hearts that you call an ace of spades! So in all actualty I'm honest, wouldn't dream of breeding two different breeds together and then try to register the offspring as something other than what they are regardless of color! You don't have to tell me whats back in the closet in my dogs because I can't do anything about what hunters and breeders did years ago, but in 95 I started hunting Redbones and from that moment on I've kept them Redbones to the best of my knowledge! On another note every dog that I have put in a hunt that won did so by treeing real live raccoons, not by circeling slick trees, not minusing them or walking hunts out and believe me there are alot of dogs that won the way I stated in the later part of this sentence!I drew Lil' Red and jmo she was ave. at best!I've hunted against alot of Redbones and jmo I would say there is less than ten that I would own and if she was a Redbone, she wouldn't even be one of them!Shane is his own man and will do his thing!I don't believe Shane was speaking for me but sometimes the truth hurts!

Larry in the end what is your destination?I'm pondering that is to have a Redbone as good as possible to win the U.K.C. world hunt!

I'm more of a pleasure hunter also because I like to set on a log after work ,listen to a good hound! This gets me away from all the bullcrap that goes on every day, gets me to relax and enjoy time by myself!I also like to comp. hunt!

Larry

That would be a shame if you stopped in the Hunts, you and you alone are the reason i started back. You told me not to let what others thought of me kept me form what i enjoyed and what my dogs deseved for a title. I have made three Dogs Nite Ch since we first talked and have three other that have there first place wins that have won our State hunt with Iris and a Mini Slam Scar. I got both of these dogs because of you.
Kept your head high and enjoy what you have done to improve the breed we both love. Some people will never understand one another but should be open minded enough to see the benefit in the work to be the best and improve on the thing we each desire to improve.
