HTX

there may not be no competition but there is a lot of dogs that can not tree a coon by there selfs.

i would go for money hunts during the week, i know the other KC have them but i do not like some of there rules.

I believe all in the cast have to agree to hunt 1 hr.

Fact is for both major kc's your hunting for pcs of paper the other fact is only ones paper will pay for my trip to the hunt the other helps with? Fact is ukc cuts its own throat, title out your dog and they reward you by not having any reason to ever attend another hunt with that dog. Thats like taking the very air you breath away. Ukc is cutting there funds by having a dead end road for there titled dogs and more importantly the clubs attendance goes down. People want to hunt and be rewarded. Seems like coonhoundsmen dont have a lot of clout in certain kc's. Just wonder what percentage of this kc's registry are tree dogs? Compared to the other kc. It would be interesting to see some numbers. People listen to the majority, I only hope this is not the reason for all the years of stagnant water.

hunts

Collaremup says you can't hunt a grntch in any of the hunts, you can hunt a Grntch in any of the big hunts, and they are the hunts that the dog is going to get much reward from anyhow. I am in favor of a dog having to pass a HTX hunt before he can be title. I am sure there is a lot of me too dogs out there, that are titled and this would be a way to stop that.

seems like 1hr hunts would put more on having a good dog and
better handler , not so much on hoping someone else messes up
if all these dogs were as good as they are said to be , time wouldnt matter.

Freddy, it is a cast by cast decision in the other kc. Doesn't have to be everyone as you aren't competing against the other casts scores. You will have to ask your son why he agreed to hunt one hour bc that's the ONLY way it happened. Early round would be crazy to hunt 1 hour, late round I could go along with.

RRiley

My son was a back up handler. He went mainly to observe as he hasn't handled a dog in a hunt yet. He is sixteen and will be entering the hunts real soon.

I did find out that you are correct about the one hour being a casts decision. They decided on the one hour the first night, but they hunted two hours the following night.

seems just the opposite to me... in an hour hunt you can cut loose on a couple buckets and head back in.... most dont have enough to last 2 hours so then they start screwing up.... the longer anything hunts the bigger chance there is of handler and dog making a mistake... thats just pure logic
