I've hunted with some loose mouth strike dogs that were honest they might go 100 yards or more befor they struck but when they did it was every foot step...but I have also hunted with true babblers that bark right befor you cast them until you round them up or go to a tree and two or three are at that tree over 120 bpm on the wood...but hey yall are the ones who wanted them pretty brag about pedigrees on them papers..

I saw a UKC World Champion that started barking when it was cut loose and covered like a blanket all night.

Babbling is a training issue no matter how pretty their papers are some people want that type of dog or scarde of ruining the dog fact is most dogs can be broke of it if the trainer does his job

training problem...

Some of it comes from starting puppies before they have enough leg under them... They fall behind and start trailing or barking after other dogs... but again every one wants that 4 month old phenom....

A dog would have to do this all night and never open on the ground for this to happen..... I think the word consistantly ,,, not just the 1 st time.

They have changed the rules for the babbler ...... Enforce what we got

It would be hard to say with out being there to see if that dog had the front or was running behind i would like to be there to make that call i know that because a dog is in front don't mean its not babbling i tried on out a couple mounths ago that had several cast wins in different kc's if you turned him with dogs he'd open abou 10 sec in with a chop mouth and babble every breth intill they struck a coon then he had a nice bawl mouth he would tree coon but was more likeley to cover

english buddy

Agreed. On one hand as a judge or cast as a whole it aint hard to figure out of a dogs babblin. You jus gotta have the nerve to say it. But one on the other hand when you hunt off of feeders all the time its not as obvious cause they tree in no time. You wanna pick out the babblers bring em to the virginia mtns where you might not strike a coon in the two hrs. You'll see alot more minus points at the end of the night. Jmo

Tim that is why both registries need to revise this rule it is to hard to prove and even if people say the judge doesn't need proof it can still be questioned and overturned. only thing I can think of to do is what has been talked about in previous posts fifty for strike within the minute

I agree. At least the babbler only gets a potential 25 point advantage.

years ago i hunted one that would not say a thing across a open field until it hit the woods and he would go through the woods opening every 20-30 seconds, did not have a thing but you could not minus him the way he did it, turn him in the timber and you could set your watch that he would open up alittle after a minute and do the same thing. If he shut up you could bet he was going across open fields until he got back into the timber. dog won over 38,000 in pkc. i knew what he was doing but nobody else really did, they all thought he had a heck of a nose on him!!!!

I can't stand a babbler! Somebody told me that they were a hunt coming up that probably had a record number of babblers and slick treeing dogs in it. You think they were making fun of Walker Days or another hunt coming up? Never would tell me, just told me to think about it lol.

Man Come on!!!! I was always told if you cant beat them join them. I know of lots of lines of Walkers that are Babbling idiots.. And there is never a day goes by that you dont see one of there offspring on here foresale. I have personally hunted with several of them and they will make your ears bleed listing to their none sense. If you know anything about the hunting world then you know what you want to hunt and you know what to stay away from. There are several lines that I stay completly clear off. I also know of 2or 3 world champion dogs that started opening in the box and never stopped running that mouth the whole hunt. I've also seen some that made wrld champ that didnt hunt out 300yrds on thier own.
I recently picked up a female that will destroy a cast.. We are getting her ready for the weather to break. She opens 20 yards from where she is unsnapped and keeps it open every 10-15 secs. She makes short order of getting treed off this strike crap. But somehow she pulls a tree out of her butt. Sorry to say boys this is what will win. I just needed to add my 2 cents. You breed for what wins or you breed for what you enjoy and I'm doing both. The problem is a lot of hunters pick pups up because of something their parents have one and have no clue what type of pups they have on there hands. It is a lot easier to hunt something if you know what you got in your box and you know what to exspect from him at each stage of his life. Do you resaearch guys and keep training then to tree coon FAST.

Your only half right! What really wins is one that will stay treed. So, if you have a Babbler and a mean alligator at the tree running everything off then you have a winner. Oh, that sounds like many of the dogs in the hunts today!!! Sorry for stepping on Toes! You can stick with hunting those undesirable traits if you want but not for me...no thanks!

Cody I'm not saying I enjoy hunting a babbling dog.. It drives me crazy and I have sold a dozen that acted this way and I hate it.
FYI I wont hunt a dog that wont stay treed. They either need to get alone every drop or something but I can not tolerate a dog that will not stay. It doesn't take a good judge long to weed out the aggressors. Nothing worse than a 1st tree dog that cant stand getting blown on. I had one yrs ago and she drove me crazy.... I vowed to never pack another one like her.
