I'm reading all this and have gotten texts from hunting buddies that are saying the same as most all of you. The barking and slipping away. My husband said to me tonight, when was the last time I saw the REAL Autumn. It's been a long time that she has been 'normal'. All I have now is a shell, every once in a while it's like she remembers something and does it, but for the most part, I get a blank stare (she is also blind). I made the mistake of reaching up to touch her face about two weeks back and it scared her and she snapped at me, which she would never have done before. I now have to start at her neck and work up, so I don't scare her with the face touching.

I'm not ready to let her go, but maybe for her, it might be best if I did.

i have a denmark feist that's almost 12. she was never a really good squirrel dog but at some point she became my constant companion. when i got a recliner, shortly after i got her, she climbed up behind my head and lay on the back of the chair. to this day she lays there as i watch tv or read. after a while she'll stand, turn around lay down agian on her other side. i know her time with me is getting short. often times i turn my head i listen to her heart beating and charish he moment. i know there will never be anothe dog with the imagination and initative to climb to the back of my recliner. after 12 years of her being there i'll be wondering where she is when i'm in the old folfs home, if i'm blessed to live that long.

Yes, I bred her and had an ad up looking for a grand pup or great grand pup. So far nothing. The daughter I kept died this past August. I lost the male I bred Autumn to and was father to the pup in Aug. too. Today she barked then whole day, won't even come out of her box to eat. But giving her canned food and dry, mixed with hot water. She eats that.
