put dog and possom in a plastic barrel with a lid and air holes in it, roll the barrel around for a while, dog will not mess with possoms again, this is the only methed I personaly know that works.

I broke a dog of mine by if she treed one I would leash her back . And grab possum if could reach or if not I would shoot it. And lay it or hold in front of her and if she tried to grab it I would "discipline" her with it. And scold her. Then another dog we had we would catch a possum in trap let possum go during the day so very visable and dog and every time the dog went after it give her a " friendly reminder" not to mess with it with a "training collar". Now either dog will mess with one

There was someone on here that claimed possum was easy to break a dog off of but I can't remember who it was. The best time to break them is when they are very young with the first contact with off game. NEVER start a pup on anything except what you want it to hunt!!!!!!

Their are some dogs that just can not be broke about 25 years ago I had a female that every method on this thread was used on and she would still tree one once in awhile. Usually on a nite ch cast that she was winning with about 500+ is when she really liked to tree them. If yours is this hard headed, Lord help you!

This is easy but not sane, when your sick and tired of shooting possums and carrying them around for days try this
Find you a possum knock it in the head don't shoot it ,put your ecollar on your possum treer, then put your dead possum in a trash bag put the trash bag over his or hers head tape the bag around the neck and shock the hell out of them till the bag stars to collapse and they about run out of air then cut the bag open
If and when they tree another do this procedure over it will break them

Breaking

I see that there are several opinions on breaking Dogs on off game. First, you must decide whether you want to stone cold break your Dog or just stop it till the next time. There is no 5 min. fix!! There is a fellow that lives in Ill. that can tell you exactly how to get the job done. His name is Don Little, 27 yrs. ago I had a little problem with my Dog, he took the time to help me get the problem fixed, not put off! I once asked a guy did he want his Dog to stop messing with off game out of FEAR, or did he want his Dog to stop out of wanting to please his owner, I chose the latter. This is the differance between a " Dog Man", and a DOG MAN!!!!! Good Luck!!

Dont have much of a possum problem, they cant take our winters but this has worked for me. Live trap a possum and just set it in the kennel right next to the dogs feed dish, put a good bark collar on the dog and let them live togeather for a week. When ya feed the dog feed the possum. At the end of the week ya can eat the possum and go tree some coon.

Agreed also my gf gives em a boot but the only effective way i have found is killing them all with out the dog seeing it

How did he die? I heard his owner did not mind showing him in the woods to prospective breeders which is always taking a chance particularly with a valuable dog. I heard he died hunting and I assumed he got run over. Are you saying he choked on a possum?
