Some great reading about life and life situations. I have a daughter that worked her tail off during high school, she played basketball & softball and was good at both. She also exceled in the class room as well, 4.0 GPA. When it came time to graduate and start her college education, there were offers from 5 different colleges, as long as she wanted an atletic scholarship, as soon as she decided that those atletic scholarships were too bidding and controlling and wanted to attend on a academic scholarship, there was only one college offered her a scholarship, and it was a half. I wrote all of this to say our society as a whole is completly backwards!!!!!! Instead of helping the people with good values and a good understanding of what is needed in society, our schools choice to help someone that can bonus a ball, hit a ball, run the fastest or kick a ball, not the people that can be leaders of this country, states, coummunity's & families. I love to watch sports just as much as anyone, but (we including me) have our priorities wrong. We have allowed these things to go wrong in our country, state, community's & families. Our local government is just a corrurpt as our federal government.

Do you know why our senators & representatives don't care how much it cost for someone to get a college education????

Do you know why our senator & representatives don't care about the cost of health care????

How many questions can you post that you feel henders our senators & representatives from making good decesions for their constiluates??????

I agree. Im 19 i work a fulltime job i go to school part time.
I pay all my own bills, i own 2 hounds and payed for them myself.
I bought my own truck with cash (wasnt cheap)
ever sense i was 14 and started working i have paid for everything and anything that i wanted to buy or needed.

so it pissed me off when these layabouts collect there welfare and checks off of my hard work.

Now being disabled is a different story im happy to help those who are disabled, but those who arnt and dont want to work i cant stand.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Nearly 6 million Americans - significantly more than first estimated- will face a tax penalty under President Barack Obama's health overhaul for not getting insurance, congressional analysts said Wednesday. Most would be in the middle class.

My 21 yo step daughter is a senior in college this year and pulling either 17 or 18 credits this semester (can't remember which). She busts her hump waiting tables all summer long and also as much as possible during the school year. She is paying for it all herself. She has had to take out student loans for what federal grants didn't cover (she got no grants this year). She hasn't asked for a penny from us through her whole college career. And her gpa is like 3.5 throughout college. Sometimes it's alot for her but she keeps her eyes on the prize and studies, works, and when she has time has fun in that order. I think as parents our job is to raise our kids as productive members of society: not whiners with a chip on there shoulder asking what the government can do for them. Unfortunately too many people just have there hand out and would rather whine about "not being equal" than to get off there butt's and make something of themselves!

Thank you! That is why your step daughter will be a wonderful contributing member of society, she knows what she wants and she is willing to bust her butt to make it happen. In 10+ years from now she will be able to look back and say "I built this".

In my honest opinion,

Colleges & Universities are highly overrated nowadays. For decades, all we did was try to impress our kids on getting an education.Education,education,education.Well,guess what?? What do you think the percentage of college graduates being able to find a job today? It ain't very high.A young man or woman is much better off learning a trade nowadays,I think.Only problem with that is-----our kids nowadays are so frickin' spoiled, that they are too lazy to even do that.

Have any of you tried hiring a young kid to do physical labor lately? I'd have better luck teaching a dog to work. The kids that pay their own way thru college will be far better off in "life's lessons" down the road. My parents gave us the option of getting a job or going to college. My older brother and I got jobs why my little brother went to school. I could name 10 kids in the local area doing nothing but sleeping til noon and partying all night. My dads philosophy why we were growing up was your going to work young cause I can't teach you to work when you're 25! Too many kids want to loathe thru life and think the worlds constantly taking a crap on them. There's always a job out there just a matter of how bad you want one.

Rob, I agree, nothing wrong with learning a trade, college isn't for everyone and there are some great jobs in the trades.

but like you said, it's work, and bottom line, people don't want to actually work.

when my wife was in college we had 2 kids and i was 20 yrs old. she had a part time job and i had a full time job. i was only making 10 an hr. she was 6 and change with about 6-12 hrs a weeks. she worked after class at a dollar store acroos for school just to make money for gas to go to school. we got foodstamps but that was all the help we got. we paid a babysitter and had a car payment. we lived in a crappy single wide, but we were happy as a pig in mud. life isnt easy and may never be for us but if you want something you will work and work hard. dont cry and whine for help. you gotta want to. i know everyone has problems, but complaining about it wont help it none. im 23 now and between me and my wife we make close to 70 a year. she makes more of course because she worked hard for it. you can go to school and work and have money if you have your priorities in line. just because you cant afford top of the line clothes, shoes, or cars and cellphones dont mean you cant afford school.

This is my first semester's bill, for those that say "well i went to college and payed for it myself" I would ask when did you go to college? College prices have risen by LARGE amounts over the last few years and don't appear to be dropping. For those of you with younger children, I will say that I had the same aspirations, and my thought process was probably the same "why would someone not go to college, work hard, get scholarships, it isnt that bad". What you quickly find out is you truly are a big fish in a small pond. I graduated 3rd in my class, from a high school rated nationally with a 4.1 GPA, taking AP courses, almost all Honors courses and college course work. I did community involved projects, volunteer fire dept. volunteering for fund raisers, coordinating special olympic events, and starting new clubs within the high school. My point here being there are currently 26,000 other people on this campus that did the exact same things and some did more, the full ride expectations for a major university should be low just because of this. As I said before I am paying roughly 8000 a year, 4000 a semester thanks to scholarships and Gov. aid. With tuition, parking, meals, etc. expected to grow that number will likely grow by the time I get my undergrad degree. I work 40 hours a week in the summer time in a steel factory making electrical boxes to help pay my way actively while going through so I don't get hit with huge loans to pay back (huge being in perspective with those who are paying out of state tuition, 40,000 a year) I work very little during school as I need to keep my grades up to get into grad school, I carry 15 hours of classes to attempt to graduate in 4 years even though the recommended amount for engineers is 12 which coincidentally, is the minimum allowed to be tagged as "full time". I don't think you should be handed anything and have worked to get where I am BUT I do believe that if we are going to cut funding we should look toward something that doesn't impact future generation quite as much, maybe institute a flat tax across the board? Maybe cut back on tax breaks? How about an outlandish idea, cut back on salary for our representatives.

If u cant afford to go its not my problem ( tax payers) I payed my way what way i went then i joined the military! Im sick of people blameing republicans because they dont belive in give hand outs! Where are we sapouse to get the money to put u throught college? Oh raisse taxes on the rich so they stop expandeing bussiness thus stop hireing people out of college where they then take a job they coulda got with out a degree!

I think I'm missing the point here... the kid is being bashed because he goes to school, works 20 hours a week, pays into social security and medicare... but he's lazy because he's working as opposed to taking out loans?

Or... is his not paying taxes to the government worse than taking free money from the government via financial aid? Fill out your FAFSA early and get that free money that MY taxes pay for!

You are missing the point becasue the kid is crying because someone told the truth. 47% pay no income tax.

Social Security and Medicare are not income taxes. If these are still solvent by the time he uses them he will likely get much more benifit than he ever paid in. They are supposedly "retirement" but he is bellyaching and crying like he is paying his "fair share" when in reality he paid nothing.

No he is being bashed because he feels like working a whole "less than 20 hours per week" is really reaching and getting it and his tone is that the taxpayers OWE him not to pay any taxes and he feels guilty and doesn't like the fact that someone brought up the point that some people earn money and don't contribute at all to the tax burden.

That's why I am for a flat tax. 10% is 10%.

i dont see any problem with our taxes going to financial aid, to people who want an education. BUT, there should be certain guidelines the students have to follow. no missing class, excessive tardy, keeping grades up, tutoring if possible. im all for it. im starting saving funds for my children, when they graduate they will have enought money for a degree or a real good head start. if they drop out for any stupid reason then the saving account will be going to the other child. i had to drop out to help my single mother of 3 pay rent. i learned how work right off the bat. i was on a roofing crew at 16 in florida. an air conditioned class room learning something that would help me out the rest of my life sure sounds like a good idea now, lol. different strokes for different folks i suppose.

A flat tax for all. Whatever that may be. 10% is enough for God himself so it SHOULD be enough for the gubment.

But even if it were 18%, it's still the same percentage for everyone. No more of this crap of one paying nothing, one getting a bribe (getting earned income credit to the point they "get back" more money than they paid in in taxes, and no more of one paying 10% and somebody else paying 35%.

One flat tax for all is the most fair way to do it.

Because it's fair the liberals will never go for it. They ain't happy unless they are punnishing success and stealing from everyone they can.
