Talk to the people that have champion dogs and see where they come from. There isn't any shortcuts, when you get a pup no matter the bloodline it still is somewhat a gamble and a whole lot of time to you know for sure what you have.

If there was a sure thing there wouldn't be any of the second class left to now no one would take them for free.

Words like better and best, and talking dogs, lights, boxes, or food is a complete train wreck.

What I think is the best, may not be anything like your hunting. I started out many moons ago hunting walkers. Then switched to curs for brains and shortened the depth of the hunt. Now i'm trying a treeing cur stock of my own to give me a combination of brains and nose. I've started rigging more and would like more nose than a normal cur can offer. The dog has to suit your needs.

And some on here have strong opinions and haven't even worked there way to the top. They bought it, and are making lots of money off of breeding and don't like when someone says something contradicting to there money maker.

I've hunted with a few cold nose omc's. I have one here if you would like to go coon or squirrel hunting with him sometimes and yes, i do know what a cold nose dog is. I hunted hounds for several years before i got these omc's. I know youre trying to promote your stephens and that's okay, but they're not the only cold nose curdogs out there. BTW, correct me if i'm wrong, but stephens are just another strain of mountain cur....right?

Your correct, some OMC's are as cold nosed as you could want. In fact a little too cold for squirrel.

Best Bloodlines

Lets be honest.. There is no one right answer, or straight answer. Its like saying are you a Ford or Chevy man.

The answer you need is simple, Find a dog that does what you want/need it to do. The blood wont matter as much if you find a dog that makes you happy.

Instead of asking what other people think is better, start looking for someone close to you that can show you there dogs.

I disagree with this quote.it you are having to cull half your dogs. Sound to me you need too start looking for another line of dogs. That is what I use too think four yrs ago. I finally found the right line for me Been forward ever sense. And I'm not saying their will not be culls.

but what one man culls another man keeps. I don't keep dogs that just simply hunt. they must perform. therefore if you have high standards you will cull and only keep those that perform. since going with curs i cull very few dogs that don't make the cut. BUT im not afraid to admit not all crosses work and must me cull fast.

The Mountain Cur Dog is versatile breed with a rich history. The Cur dog was the first true purebred from the United States of American purebred. The Mountain Cur Dog can serve as a watchdog, hunter and a herding dog.

I don't know who wrote that but they were smoking some good stuff. That right there is living proof that a piece of paper will lay right there and let you write anything on it.

There is no one that loved OMCs anymore than I do but to say they were the first American "purebred" is ludicrous. I guess it was evidenced by their wording how well written they were.
