wolves.

Sorry for the incomplete post, phone died. Anyway two hounds were killed and consumed, and another badly mauled.

Sory for the loss of the hounds. It is a real bad deal with these wolves. Don't know what to do other than make the bear hunters aware that if there are wolves in the area you run they will kill hounds.

wolves

That is terrible, you have my sympathy. I would go to jail or I would quit hunting if I had to put up with that. I couldn't stand it.

Dogos might be useful in an eradication program. Seen a picture of one with a cougar pinned down by the throat and he wasn't letting go. Kinda like catch dogs for hogs.

The reason wolves are killing the dogs are because they consider them trespassing wolves that aren't allowed on their property. Ever seen a video of wolves fighting off a rival pack? Same concept except dogs lose in the end.

that is true but we need to start controling the wolf population in Michigan they are getting thick. In my opinion the houndsmen here will be ran out of the UP because of the wolf population. I mean the bird hunters, rabbit hunters, anyone who turns a dog loose will be taking a very large risk of having their dog killed by the wolves.

@ Kyle W. Graf- it must take a genius to have common sense anymore.. Keep your dogs away from them until collected.. Plain and simple.. Just throwing out some suggestions

Use common sense. What about other peoples dogs? You are not the only one hunting the public land.

There was a bear hound at the vet this summer that grabbed a piece of meat that was full of treble hooks. I am sure the person who put that out kept their dog away from it.

Use a gun or leave it to someone else. I sure don't want my dogs killed by someone following this kind of advice.
Thanks.
Kyle

Okay you have stated your point.. And you do posess a good reasonable argument. There is always risks involved with voluntary actions used in a situation, so be it. As this wolf population continues to increase, which I'm sure it is, you are losing good hunting areas and even worse HOUNDS. If there is no kind of predation management being used by DNR then what are you going to do? I know there are some die hard houndsmen in that region of the country that are tired of this. Obviously, they're going to do something about it. Just because I introduced that into this forum doesn't mean everyone's going to go bomb sponges out. It is just a simple way to kill a wolf. If your like me then anyway a wolf ends up dead is a great way and I would be way more worried about dogs like those in the pictures previously posted because it makes me sick right to my soul that those beasts are out there doing that. But I appreciate your concern! Thanks

That sponge thing is total bs, i have seen dogs eat shirts before and they just pass through, the only way a sponge is gonna kill anything is if its the size of a purse dog or the wolf eats a leg size sponge whole with no bites taken out if it!!! I dont have wolf problems thank god but these coyotes are getting pretty bold where im at!!! In my opinion the best advice i cam give would be to post signs every where around the state land that everyone can see that there may or may not be traps set out and your running at your own risk!!! If i saw those signs i wouldnt cut my hounds loose thats for sure!!! I would have blood on my mind if those where my hounds and law or not a pack of wolves would be short some members if those where my hounds!!! Im not one to talk but we need to stop talking about it and actually do something, we all like to complain but very few of us actually do anything thats just human nature, we do alot of talking but no walking!!! I said my peace here and i hope no more hounds are killed or harmed anytime soon!!!
