I also feed my dog Purina Dog Chow, plus I give him one can of pedigree wet food a day, if you look at the ingredients it's basically a can of meat, my dog really likes it. A 12 can box cost $10.

DOG CHOW

We buy ours from Sam's 50 to 55 lbs. Puppy Chow 37.5 lbs. Was feeding Purina One. Can't tell any difference in the health or coats of our dogs. Just started Feeding two dogs (One 8 yr old Male with Ear Problems & One Female 2 1/2 yrs old never been in heat) 4 Health Grain Free. Just opened first bag. Wanted to see if that would make a difference for either dog.

I like Pro Plan Performance but it's gone out of my price range for 7 dogs . , $50 a bag at Tractor Supply . Been feeding Purina One Lamb & Rice from Sam's Club, 44lb bag for $36 something before tax . They take Purina Checks but have to explain and be ok'd EVERY TIME . Pain the behind so I've started saving the points for bigger & better things like my Astro bundle and then gift cards from Cabela's and Bass Pro for extra DC40 collars . Even Best Buy cards, about due for a new computer .

Dog Chow is a good maintenance feed. I feed Pro Plan in the fall/winter and it is hard to beat.

Our Purina Dog Chow comes in 16Kg(35 lb) bags, around here they have kept the size of the bag the same but we are paying $28 a bag even was as high as $30 at one point this spring. I prefer to feed Purina Beniful, I find the hounds i'm hunting stay better on it than Dog Chow but they dropped the bags to 14Kg(30 lb) bags and you pay $30 - $32 a bag for it.

I think if you are going to feed something less expensive SportMix Black Bag is the way to go. It still sells for about 50 - 60 cents lb.

I have never in 30 years thought to buy a Purina product.

I think if you are running a big kennel or a commercial operation it is best to become a dealer of a food you like. A bag that costs say $1 - $1.50lb retail will wholesale at 60 - 70 cents lb.

You would be surprised the demand for upscale foods.

A gal near me is a sled dog racer and she puts $2500 cash in her pocket each month being a dealer of an upscale feed.

I've been feeding my hounds Purina Dog Chow for at least 2yrs now and have no complaints. They look very good on it. I get it from Sams Club.
I trust Purina. I can't remember the last time they had a wide spread recall that harmed dogs. Can't beat the weight circle program they offer either, very few places offer to give back to the buyer. And, they support the events I like to participate in.

I tried giving my dogs Purina One. They'll eat it, but not crazy for it. They do like Beneful, but those don't have weight circles.

Used dog chow some through the years mostly during the summer months. My Dad has used it exclusively for probably.....???40 years without any issues.

I started liking it a whole lot better when I found it a couple of weeks ago for $16 and some change in 55lb bonus bags.

I have that same problem too John. Normally, i feed the Pro Plan to the coonhounds, but the rest of the crew gets the dog chow, and as you said, they live long healthy lives eating "junk". HAHA! what does the expert know? Does he eat it to know its junk? My dogs would beg to differ with him.

Use to feed Purnia One until they changed the formula to the meat chunks. Then it became a JUNK food, I've seen maggots in it and my dogs would not eat the lil pieces of meat. I switched to Dog Chow and haven't had any problems with it so far. I raise all of my pups on Puppy Chow.

I have fed it forever, to my horses and hounds. Horse feed is alright, but I noticed my hounds losing weight. We have a feed mill here in Lawrenceburg TN that makes a feed called James Choice it is 21 protein and 25 percent fat, it keeps my hounds fat and active and to add its a full 50 lbs. for 24 bucks and you don't have to feed that much. I will never feed Purina dog chow again, the quality has just gotten bad and for that price it should be good feed as it use to be.
