Really the point i was trying to make is that there is good and bad with both systems. I was trying to make someone stand up and admit there is much room for improvement with the garmin. They should have focused on that before coming out with a whole new system. If I had consistant range and signal out to a third of what Garmin ADVERTISES them to be I would not have even started this post. The fact that Garmin made the new alpha without it even being compatible with some of the existing collars tells me something about garmins priorities. Those of you that claim you have never had a problem with your Garmin probably dont need them. I would like to know which system you have dc30 or dc 40 so those of us in the elite group that seem to be the only ones with issues could go forward and have fun running our dogs with good friends rather than worrying about whether or not we will be able to maintain our signal and find or retrieve our dog at the end of the night. I don't think there is one person that would dissagree that if garmin would come out with trialed and true collar say a dc50 that consistantly performed up to 5 miles for coon hunters anyway, that we would not all jump on it. Until then, Garmin will get no more of my money.

HEY BUDDY DON'T BUT ANY TRI TRONICS GARMIN OWNE'S THEM NOW AND THEY WENT TO SH*T TO 200 -300 IS MAX ON THE G3 SAID IT WAS 2 MILE'S THEY ARE JUNK. SPORTDOG IS THE BEST ON THE MARKET NOW.

Iv had my garmin since they first came out, i upgraded to dc30 collars when they first came out and they still work perfectly. I consistently get about 2 miles before i loose signal and i have never even upgraded the system. I can see the bear and lion hunters needing more range but anyone that has a coondog that needs to get out of garmin range to tree a coon has a dog problem not a tracker problem. Wouldnt a guy with a little common sense look at his garmin and say wow those dogs are gettin deep lets head on in?
the most valuable hounds in the country are turned loose every night wearing nothing but a garmin collar, but ya gotta GET OFF THE TAILGATE.

i CONSISTANTLY get 2 miles outta my 320 and DC40. Never had it drop a dog. the only reason I know what range im getting is I had to drive AWAY from my dog and it dropped her at 2.1 miles...cant beat that

Ive used a tracker classic system for the past four years it works good but you need a lot of practice with it for sure my only draw back is that high tension power lines screw with it bad!!!

you and I must be hunting the same satelite district because I get about the same range as you and to my knowlege I have every upgrade including antennas and software to date. As far as tritronics I will have a hard time saying anything bad about them. They have always worked well for me. Have to be honest though I just purchased the sport dog 3225 after I my hunting buddy got his and lets just say the tritroncs is for sale. What part of md are you from.

guys i would be extatic and have absolutely no complaints if i had two miles consistantly. If sounds like if someone combine the dc30 with 320 we might have something. I also agree about the 2 miles plus that might need to worry more about what your dog is doing than how track the dog. Anyone that hunts with me will tell you i'm not afraid to walk if it calls for it but if can drive and get closer and add a couple years of hunting to my life, I'm not afraid to drive either. I dont have big parcels of land to stretch out a dog so if i find the dog i'm hunting gets to that point it will either find a new zip code where the dog can hunt with a reasonable amount of safety or wind up getting smacked by a car. I still have two radio tracking systems and I am glad i did not sell them. Just an observation i'm noticing the hunters having the least trouble are those using the dc30. Hang on to them folks because the dc40 is not much to shout about. Garmin advertises up to 9 miles on the 320 and I have yet to hear anyone to say they get half of that not just consistantly but at all. I really hope someone whether it be marshall, sportdog, or garmin comes up with something that is whats advertised.

i wouldnt trust a collar that dies in 40 some hrs. although im not saying i will never try a garmin some day. i like my quick track as for the bouncing signals off mtns. if u know the land and area your hunting, u just have to know how they work. PS ive lost a dog before for 2 days, if wearing a garmin collar hed be long gone. and yes he was junking ;-)

i have a garmin 3 dog and when it works its the best invention since the spoon but when it doesnt i want to bounce it off a rock.i find myself using telemetry more than half the time.where i hunt u only get a mile range if your lucky amd can stay on top of a mountain.i agree they work better for some than others.but ill stick with ol beep beep for now.if your not afraid to get out of the truck and follow the beep you will find your dogs.....

If you had the new Garmin Alpha you could have stopped the whole Chase with a push of a button an watched as he stopped trashing and either came back to you or went looking for what he was suppose to be looking for...

I always said the day i need a tracking system is the day I go get my ears checked but after leaving a pricey dog in the woods a few times last season due to not being able to find him or hear him i invested in me a garmin I never really look at it unless its been a while since i last seen him but it has failed me but i am new to it and did not start a new hunt once then the second time i forgot that i had deleted the collar off both times it failed was because of me

Watch every young kid around that has a Garmin. They don't know how to listen because they are too busy staring at the dang screen. I know, I used to do the same thing, so I got rid of mine. Do the Garmins still have games on them? lol
