I am with you- "get more miles". I rarely get one mile with either my 30 or 40.

Where I hunt im lucky if i can get 800 yards with my garmin here in eastern iowa! The dog went out of range twice last night on each drop, I dont think it works good in the hills or thick cover like i hunt. We'll see how it does suring kill season when its not as thick....if Marshall comes out with GPS and beep beep in one I would buy it!

Talked to the Marshall rep. at AO Friday and asked when can we expect to see the Marshall GPS? Told him I was 72 years old and hoped to see one in my life time. He told me he wouldn't promise me that. Take it for what it's worth.

What more could a system do?

When asked what more should the system do? We deer hunt with dogs also. I think collar life needs to be a couple of days. We frequently leave dogs out over night so many hunters have to use telemetry and GPS or just telemetry. It also needs to be able to track a lot more collars. We have way more than 20 dogs on the ground at our club in a day. And the distance should be consistently 2-3 miles. Since someone asked what else the system needs to do.

Other than track over 20 dogs the Garmin Alpha meets all your requirements.

I also want one that I can have with me at all times. Alpha does not fit. It has an e-collar. With the e-collar the handheld will have to be left in the truck. NOT GOOD!!!

The biggest problem we have is the way the stupid ID numbers are set up. There needs to be more Numbers. I don't understand why if my collar is set to 3, and a number 43 comes close, I am screwed. We hunt public land with hundreds of collars around us and its a mess. If I turned out a dog with a 29 collar and my buddy didn't realize it and turned out a dog with 19, we are both getting interference and I can't help track his dog. And don't try to tell me you can change the ID number at a distance cause you will never pick that collar up till its in your hand.

The new Marshall collars will have an inboard analyzer built into them and continually analyze the sent your dog is tracking , you will know if it's coon, deer, rabbit, squirrel, opossum, ect. without guessing what it is, this is why it's taking time to develop, it will be worth it in the end!!

Marshall LongTimer

They've always said it's coming in Sept. They've just never said which one, maybe it will be this one coming.

I don't think Marshall going to be able to make much splash. I think there update rate will be too slow and will give them allot of Problems.

I've heard some initial feedback and I don't think I'll be sitting in line to switch from Garmin.

Take it for what it's worth but Marshall or sportdog won't ever touch Garmin ..... This Is Garmin for cryin out loud . But I am surprised a company like Tom Tom or Magellan have yet to explore into the subject
