The dog was in deep, maybe half a mile. The two dogs sounded similar, it was far enough away that neither handler was sure which dog it was or even if it was two dogs. One guy struck and a few seconds later treed the dog. About a minute later the other handler struck and treed what he thought was his dog. Turned out it was the second handlers dog. But neither knew anything for sure until the first handlers dog fell treed right beside us. That is when he said minus my dog both ways. They minused him, he immediately restruck and retreed his dog and they proceeded to score dogs. This question was never asked until a day later.

It went on the card as minus strike and then the tree points were also minused. On the card it is two different scores, strike points and tree points. Two different minuses. Right?

Doesnt matter if he trees his dog or not,if the dog is not struck as soon as the dog barks 3 times and is not called the handler is guilty. 3 more barks and he is guilty again, and gone. RULE 6E.

Eventhough i may agree with you, where does it say you can give one handler the benefit of the doubt while you scratch the other handler? and why does 6E say that it is to be rigidly enforced. It seems to me both handlers made honest mistakes.

Got it scratch the first one for striking the wrong dog two for not striking his dog than find some reason to get number three now is it not how it goes down today by most of the sharp handlers if you scratch you do not have to beet them or there dogs

Heard a story about a 2 dog cast one time under the old rules when you were scratched on the first offense for not striking your dog on the 3rd bark.

Dog A barks and handler of Dog B says "strike my dog". Dog A keeps barking and the handler of Dog A says "hey you struck my dog", but he doesn't strike his dog. Handler B says "yep, I struck the wrong dog, but you are scratched for not striking your dog on or before the 3rd bark".

scratched

The handler that struck and treed the wrong dog should be scratched. Seems to me the tree call was the second attempt to call the wrong dog. What should have happened was the cast tightened up on the dogs until it was clear what dog it was.
Jim I thought all you Northern boys lived in the land of coon. What's them dogs going a half to get struck for. LOL

John he has to be minused for the first three by the judge before he can be scratched for the next three. I dont think either handler would be scratched.

Rule #4(I)
If a handler stikes or trees the wrong dog, the "JUDGE" will
award points called and minus them. These points will then be
open for all dogs....

Rule #6(F)
On second offense if handler calls another handlers dog..
then your gone!!

Not that it makes much difference with this screwed up event but I was wondering if the first dog held his tree and how the tree was scored + - or circle? Was a coon there?

6(F) seems to be about a second coon to me, based on 4(I).

I think it's pretty plain that the man made a mistake and manned up to it and took his minus. I say accept it at that and move on.

In my opinion , it's things like this that hurt the hunts.
If you can't tell whether a guy is trying to cheat you or if he's making a mistake , you shouldn't be there.

That is how they handled it. I was a spectator, I don't think it ever occurred to the judge or anyone else to scratch. It came up the next day purely as a "what if".

The rules say they must be open trailers to compete..BUT theirs alot of titled silent dogs walking around.
I want to hear them open once atleast on the ground during the course of the night, I figure if the judge accepts a strike call they have met the reguirement. Lots will disagree with me but i like a tight mouth dog way better than 1 that runs his mouth allnight.
