her is what I keep pups for when they are weaned, a large 3ftx4ft house that has a 1ftx4ft hall way in with a swinging metal door, it is 4ft tall inside and the walls are insulated with a vent at the top, there is a actcess door at the side for cleaning, and the floor, I used those stick on panel flooring and the roof is rubber, for heat I got a commerical bulb cover, it is glass with a metal cage over it. I used acid to etch the glass( i can't remember the name of the acid, you cant get it at any hardware), and painted the glass with high temp black paint, so no light could come through, put the light up in the corner on the house , the metal cage and glass will prevent any burns, as for newborns they come into the attached garge, I figure a lost bluetick puppy is $250 and my weimaraner pups are $600, so the extra care is worth it
