Not much corn is imported. The local custom feed mill in ohio uses american corn and produced at one time dog food under 50 diferent brands and types.

Soy is used to make up some of the percentage of protein, some used to argue that because soybeans are plant based protein the dog doesnt convert it as well as say meat based diets,Some dogs are allergic to it. I just feed what I feel is good for my dogs JMHO

Micooner, that's the way I feel about it. Since the cheaper dog feed has went up and up and up I've went back to black gold. I used to feed it all the time until the went way up in pricing years ago. Now since pride, sports mix, plantation, and other feeds have almost caught up as far as the price I just went back to Black Gold.

I switch back and forth between the chicken and rice and the lamb and rice. Dogs look good but i only hunt 3 or 4 nights a week this time of year.

The EA is chicken and rice.

There is a Chicken and Rice formula that's not EA.

I ran a simular test here at the kennels some 12-18 months ago. Used about everything under sun in terms of feed you can buy around here, inside a price range, Sportmix held up fairly well, however to maintain the dogs looks, one had to rotate between the 26-18 and 24-20 mixes. I like the feed, but it wasn't what we wanted. switched to the black gold, and saw very little if any difference in the 26-18 miixes. Showtime was way to much "clean-up" involved in feeding it. Them dogs could shoot through a mesh screen fence and never hit wire. Sunshine, believe it or not was good feed, but the place around here stopped carrying it.

The winner of the test by far was Purina ProPlan Performance. Dogs stay muscled up, lean and ready for whatever the hunt brings them. From observation, they appear to feel better on this feed. Yes it is more pricy than the rest of the above, although not that much more than the black gold, but worth it in terms of performance. I noticed and increase in stamina when I switched to performance. I also ran the white sheet test. put some pellets on a white cloth and see which one leaves the most grease after allowing to sit for a day or two. It will not be the Purina.

Long story shorten, Purina performance is just that. Performance enhancing fuel for your dog. To be truthful, i'd rather feed regular dog chow than a lot of other things i have tried.Nope, lesson is learned folks. If Purina is on the bag, the quality is inside.

I feed showtime and i could hit my dogs stool with a golf club you must've had other problems I went from Pro Plan to Sportmix to Showtime and haven't found a problem except I have more money in my pocket now and my dogs look great....

i tried native with no results the dogs stool was very lose and even cut down on the feed. i love sportsmix but can't get it around here anymore if i do i have to order 20 plus bags and that would last me a year. i feed river run with great results like it better than native dog food and its about 20 dollars cheaper and it comes in 50lb bags

Update

So far I'm very impressed with the Diamond Extreme Athlete. Trooper is doing very well on it and looks the best he has in a while.. Trooper was granded out at 2 and after he went to a few big hunts but was mostly pleasure hunted. For the last 2 years he has lived a relaxing life at the beach wich bleached his tan white and made him look much older then what he is. He has only been on the EA for a few weeks and his tan markings are starting to come back, he has slimmed down some and his muscles are starting to be more visible. Today I started my 5 month old pup Jet on his food change over to see how he does.. So far the EA is out preforming the Native.. The Sportmix is still hanging in there and is a great food for the money.
