I am feeding the Diamond maroon and green bag can't think of name figured out I was feeding too much... Loose stools so I cut back and they look great but when I make a trip to Indiana in April I will be switching to Ultra either purple or yellow bag. My boyfriend uses it and dogs look amazing for being hunted 6-7 nights a week few hours a night! I just can't get it in NY so I will stock up on it!

I'm interested in what you are saying, I throw a few tablespoons of leftover menhaded fish meal ( 50% protein) that I use as shrimp bait on top of good dogfeed and it only increases the protein content and helps their coat. You might be onto something if it is that cheap. I thought floating catfish feed had to be high as heck , they get a pound of gain out of 2.5 lbs of that feed.

I just switched from pedigree to black gold. I found a place close that sells it for 25.00 per 50 pound bag. The price seemed right so well see how the dogs do.

I live in Mississippi and our local feed store carries a feed called J and B , I think it is made in alabama it is 30/21 fat and protien, I have feed it to grown dogs and puppies both and it keeps them with a nice coat and will keep them at a good weight , and its only $20 a 50lb bag

Hi-Standard

Hi-Standard 26-18 is what i have been feeding longer than i can remember. Noticed they have added Glucosamine and chondroitin to several of their feeds. big thing with HS is the color, size and i guess ingredients never change. price has of course went up over the years.

Still buying 3-5 tons once a month, great feed.

my local feed store sells floatin catfish feed for $15 that's tax & all! Comes n a white bag with pic of catfish! Its the best all around feed I have ever fed! Just make sure dogs have plenty of water cuz higher protien makes them drinnk more in order to digest the feed!

Rex, tops, and caliber all made by specialty feeds.

Decent feed at good prices, most still under 20 a bag. Rex and Tops 27-15 pretty hard to beat for an all around good budget feed. Caliber 24-20 , also good feed, and they make a Valu-Pak 24-20 which has been a pretty decent low cost maintenance feed at 17-18 dollars a sack, all 50 lb.bags.

If I could get Showtime 27-20 closer than Washington,In I would be feeding that. Showtime is a very good feed for the money.

Also feed some pro plan performance and red paw to the running hounds. Hate the price, but hard running dogs arent going to keep up on a run of the mill 26-18 or 24-20.

If purina pro plan performance was in 50 lb. sacks and was closer to 29.99 a bag I would probably exclusively feed it to every thing, pups, old dogs, runnin dogs, coon dogs etc. etc.

My dogs love it & stay n top shape but I have had a few that took awhile to get them to eat it good. I buy mine from local feed store but at tsc its like 25 a bag!! I was workin on a catfish farm with a older man that would scoop up any feed we dropped or run over our feed truck & I asked what was he doing he said feedin his hounds & since then I been feedin it & it works good!! My dogs hunt hard & can last allnite. Brand I feed is called (farm cat)

Showtime 27-20 is good at $26 after tax, I never heard of it till two months ago when my feed store went out of business and the new place did not carry Diamond Maintenance.

I feed a raw diet

I make a homemade raw diet that consists of ground meat, organ meat, bone dust, fresh veggies, canned pumpkin, alfalfa powder and other supplements, plus high bone to meat ratio such as turkey necks and chicken backs. By making my own food I can change the source of protien and vits and minerals by changing my recipie. There is really good information online and in books like "Give your dog a bone" or search BARF diet( Biologically Available Raw Food)online. Just food for thought...

I fed a couple of mine raw chicken thighs. i really helped the muscle development and redistributed their weight around...I was impressed.

another thing I found, purely by luck, esp for picky or finicky eaters, is the Natural Balance dog food rolls. I wish I had found this when Bonnie was pregnant, she would have continued to eat well. I use a grater to shread it and mix it in her feed. We started with the beef and are one the turkey now. 1 roll lasts about 2 weeks, feeding 2-3 times/day. It can also be used as a treat or training aid.

I order the 4lb rolls from Jeffers Pet for $8.99. I just opened the 2nd roll 2 days ago. Bonnie can wait to eat now and will clean her bowl and not turn her nose up at it. This will now be a staple. I researched this and this was the BEST price I found.

Healthwise C/O
GO! Salmon (for puppies)
GO! Chic/fruit/veg (winter food)
Evangers (when I get it 20% off wholesale)
Horizon Complete (filler for grain free food)
Horizon GF fish
Pronature salmon
Pronature turkey/cranberries
Tuscan naturals
California natural C/R
Innova SR plus (old dogs)
Horizon Legacy
Innova Prime (grain free)
Evo
Innova

I feed a lot of dogs/pups in a year. It helps greatly that I retail holistic & healthy food, so I pay wholesale. Since half of my dogs are crackhead extreme working dogs...I take good care of my investments.

The hounds get fed same things as the other dogs. Not all dogs get the same out of the food. Puppies get fish food, which eliminates knuckled over knees and other issues w growing pups.

But then again, I also health test my dogs (especially my breeding stock). With my feeding program I don't have the issues that I had w the other lower quality foods. Toxin levels are way lower.

I refuse to put by-products, ethoxquin, bth/bha, corn, wheat, and rendered fat into my dogs in addition to kitchen sponges and other crap found in junk dog food.

I raise my own beef, lamb, and pork. So they get plenty of bones fat, and organ meat. Teething pups get frozen

I called the co-op and it is $18.20 here for 50# bag. I will try a bag and give a little piece of cow fat with it. Seems hight in protein for summer though.
