He hunts clover. They are some dang good dogs. And as for the babbling, its from a bluetick english mixed (that's the bluetick in him haha) and my little pup. She only babbles when she is behind and its not bad. Straight coon dog though. But he is right about the clover dogs. Idk about llouder mouths but definantly more recognizable. If I'm wrong about anything he can correct me but I don't think I am

treeing walkers vs. english

i like walkers for thier track speed and quick on tree. as for slick trees thats on the guy that trained it, if you had a dog that ran junk and just let it go what would you have? same with slicks... just my opinion. as for english i cant say but what won the world hunt this year?

That is a good thought. All my dogs have been trained the same old way since my first one. My first one was trained different because I did not have a trained dog to train him with. I swore never let that happen again. In the eighties 15 years after I started I got into a line that treed young and I was impressed. After too many years of fooling with that line I came to realize they were slick treeing too much. They could not have learned that from the previous dogs, it was built in. Pluss, they did not want to learn much from my old dogs, they wanted to get their own . Again i was impressed for that desire. Trouble is they did not pay enough attention to the old dog to figure out how to get their own. I got rid of them after too lonag of a time of messing around with them and, sure enough, just by switching lines in the breed I got back to more honest dogs. But, That line thought they had to go a mile flat out hauling Butt to get away. So that was built in. I finally quit with the whole breed and switched and it was not to English ( no real reason not) I just happened on a something else breed.
I don't think slick treeing has much to do with the guy that trained it. And not much to do with the dog that trained it if the dog that trained a better one was also a slick treeing idiot. It has to do with certain lines. And also within a certain breed and also if that breed was bred to get by itself before it knew what the H it was doing. But JMO. I don't mess with either so I probably should not be on here. And I won't say what line it was back in the 80's that was partial to slicking unless you PM. That kind of stuff does not need to be in Public . And I like to fainted when some of that line got into make one of the most famous dogs in History. I would never have believed it. I finally gave in and got a pup off the same thing I had swore to never have anything to do with and dang if he didn't live out his life with me. But he could not throw it so I finally got into a different breed.

lyle, i agree with you about different strains showing certian traits. everyone has thier opionion on what they have seen from the dogs they have hunted.i do think there would be a lot less slicken with a little more switchen.

I LIKE THE FACT THAT THE ENGLISH DOG HAS EARNED THE RESPECT OF HUNTER ENOUGH TO BE COMPARED TO THE WALKERS OVER THE OTHER BREEDS ...THIS TELLS ME SOME HUNTERS ARE TAKING NOTICE THAT THE ENGLISH HAVE COME TO WIN....

i think ALL!!!!...night hunts should only be held when there are NO!!!! leaves on the trees.....the old..."big leafy oak...might be a coon up there."........is getting old

last night i had the dog out again...struck and treed twice...one an obvious den tree....the other an OBVIOUS COON !....nothing unusual about that he does it all the time.........no he's not a walker and no he's not as fast to strike and tree.
I'm not against the walkers as a breed ive hunted with some really good ones.....but ive hunted with some competition walkers that were a total joke.....If your in an area that is thick with coon..They will tree enough ,and fast enough to keep you thinking you got something on your leash.....so in otherwards...you'll walk to 6 trees and have 3 coon....fine if you like the excersise......Me i'll hunt my redbone and walk to 3 trees and have 3 coon.....like i said.....hunt when the leaves are off the trees in thin coon...and then tell me what you got.

I like walkers. I had 3 woodstock bred english dogs made a lot of trees, but didn't hardly ever see a coon. Now I have 2 walker dogs a 3 year old male out of some no name country coonhounds and an 8 month old Hardwood Bean female and I see coons every night I go unless its in a den or a hemlock. My Bean pup is already running and treeing. Yep, I'll stick with my walkers!
