I agree the 10% the sire owner gets is pretty small, and IMO it should be.

All you have to do is hunt 1 pup off your nominated dog ($100)....even at local clubs its not very hard to make that hundred bucks back even at current point values.

Your not going to get rich in this program, but the cost to play is very low.

Thanks Jack, another question. Do the points a pup earns show up as points for the stud as well as what he earns himself?

never said anything against curt or trackman. they are doing an awesome job. Yes the points system is good...but the more dogs a sire has out there the more coming in. and then once you grand out your done. so rack up all your points in the first couple of years because after that you just a have a grand nite hound. that is when LOTS move over to other KC's because they can continue to hunt and earn cash.

Between all the state hunts and breed day events, a GrNt can rack up a bunch of pointd every year until it dies of old age.

the performance points does put some more incentive into hunting a grand nite in the hunts, my local club had a grand nite cast at 2 of its 5 UKC hunts last yr.

The average guy is deffinatly not going to make any money earning points off a local hunt, but its nice to have that little bit of pocket money back at the end of the yr.

YEAH I TOOK A MALE PUP FROM NO WINS TO 2 WINS TOWARDS GRAND AND IT ONLY TOTALLED 2.65 POINTS AND 2 OF THOSE POINTS CAME FROM SETWD... SO IT'S NOT REALLY GONNA BENEFIT ANYONE UNLESS U PLACE 2ND REGISTERED AT EVERY BIG HUNT AROUND AND NEVER NIGHT UR DOG OUT... OR AS PREVIOUSLY STATED UR DOG IS A GRAND

How long has the performance program been around now? Its still dropping in value. Should have put a age limit on it. I do wish ukc had some kind of real program for pups myself.

Here's the situation as far as I understand it:

When the PP program came out, there were obviously no dogs in it yet. The only money that was put in the bank from the start was that of the Sires. After about a year, the program was being built up due to litters and pups paying into the pot.

Nobody could earn any points or money until the dog atleast reached an age of 6 months. Realistically speaking, most pups don't do much winning until they reach the age of 2. Thus, the pot grew tremendously in its first 3 years actually.

So let's go from that. The PP program in its 1st 3 years accumulated a HUGE pot because there were very little payouts if any the first 2 years of the program.

Here's why your points are worth very little:

Once those 2 year old pups started being hunted in the hunts and earning points, there was NO MAXIMUM point value. Like others said earlier, a dog "could" earn anywhere from .25-1,000 points in a year depending on the number of dogs he/she beat. At the same time, UKC was paying all of these people, which completely depleated the point value and you have nothing when you could have had A LOT. So in reality, UKC paid out nearly 3 years of a built up pot in 1 YEAR! (nearly the entire pot went out to just a handful of hunters... those guys took home anywhere from $5,000-$20,000 in the first years of the PP program paying out.

The same thing has happened to the Performance Program that has happened to many of your 401k's...
