The world hunt title has never been on my "bucket list", for a lot of different reasons....most of the time I'm not confident enough that I have enough luck, or enough coondog to win the title....

BUT...having said that it's a matter of semantics and economics trying to follow where the finals will be. For me, getting qualified is not "difficult". There are enough RQE hunts pretty close that if you have a desire, your can get your dog qualified. After that....it becomes a matter of convenience. For the past few years it has been a "hike" to get to a zone hunt.....and then a big hike again the following week to get to the finals. It is what it is....and it is what it has always been.... nothing really changes but the scenery.

I have never been inclined to cover the country on back to back weekends chasing a title for a dog. Having qualifed in Indiana, a zone in Kentucky or Pennsylvai, and a world hunt on the Illinois and Wisconsin border....no thanks....

Granted, it would be cool to win the world hunt, but it's too much hassle, too many miles, and quite frankly too much $$$$$ for me to worry about.

UKC will have a world hunt, and most likely someone will win it (there was a year when they didn't have a winner). It will make UKC some money, the demographics of those in the finals will likely change. There won't be the same number of dogs entered in our local Indiana RQE hunts...and life will go on.

I'm not complaining at all...I know I wont be making the drive to that area of the country to coon hunt in peak hurricane season....(I'm not impressed by how tough it is to tree a coon, or walk, or how much "testicular fortitude" it takes to hunt in a particular location).....if it takes that much testicular fortitude....been there done that and neither me or my dog have anything to prove!

Enjoy!

Yall shouldnt be worried about the snakes & gators!!! You more then likely will not even see a gator! I see more dogs getting run over up north then i even hear about getting eat by a gator down here! The woods in shreveport are as good as anywhere else & have plenty of coons! Ive scored some high scores around the shreveport area.

world hunt

this is great.next year i heard its going to be way up north in minnesota where the coon are as big as grizzly bears.the thought of moving it around is a great idea.la.in the south this year/minnesota in the north next year.that would be a fair thought.

Winter Classic

No one complains about driving down there every year.. I think moving the world around gives everyone a fair shake. No one is making anyone go to it. First get qualified and make it through the finals, bet if one does they would not care if it is on the moon, they will be at the world where ever it is.

Moving every year is a great way to do it,as long as its not back and forth between the south and the middle. WNY and Pennsylvania have some great hunting, even northern OH.
Heck if your up in my corner you gotta drive forever just to get to a zone.

I'm pretty excited that it's in LA. Good hunting in the area the hunt is in. Still a long ride from me but if I make it to the finals I'll be there.

Yeah, I'm kinda excited about it too. If I can get a dog that far, I think I may go down there and handle her myself.

Like WV is the only place that has mountains, hollers and thickets lmao!!!! That's a good one. Some of us southern guys have that to. Ga ain't all farming and flat land like you see at the winter classic. Anyhow, I think the world hunt should move every year. Maybe! They should take the state with the most dogs hunted in RQEs and the next yr. Have it in that state.

If you went by the state with the most dogs entered you would see the world hunt in OH, IN or Ill for most of the years. I hate to say it but just looking at the back of my sons bloodlines the numbers of hunters attending hunts in those states are 30-40 dogs and the southern states are 12-24 so that would not be the perfect fix.

I do think it should bounce around the country, but consideration should be given on the amount of travel most will make. I truley understand those in NY and even further North will never see a World hunt in their region, just for the facts of hunters.

How was the hunting in N. Ill the year it was there ? How about when it moved over to Columbia, IN ? I firmly believe no matter where you hold it someone is going to have to drive, but would you rather drive and know that the location your attending is known for having great coon hunting and showing it in the form of outstanding scores from major hunts hosted by those said locations ?

JMO from an old guy who has played the game a time or two

Yep!

THERE ARE ALL OF THOSE THINGS ALL OVER THE US. BUT HERE WHERE WE LIVE THAT IS ALMOST HEAVEN IS THE HARDEST PLACE FOR A HOUND TO ADAPT TO. SWAMPS, WELL THEY ARE TOUGH. WENT TO COMER GA WITH MY FRIEND JOHN. IT WAS TUFF. BEAN FIELDS IS HELL TO WALK THROUGH. BUT ALL AND ALL WE ALL LOOK AT IT FROM WHAT WE GOT TO HANDLE. THE DOG DON'T CARE. IF IT IS IN THE TOP 100 THEN IT IS A COON DOG. AND A COON DOG DON'T CARE WHERE A COON IS THEY JUST GO GET IT. SO GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND IF LUCK WOULD HAVE IT ME AND OLD DOODLEBERRY WILL SEE YA THERE!!

Brandon

You need to come on down and see what I have had to deal with for the past few years. LOL

I have never hunted down there, but I drew out with a guy who said it was his home club putting on the hunt. He said you probably won't get into a treeing contest. Most likely a couple of coon on each cast is more realistic.

Don't worry about the gators. Maybe a few snake.Just make sure you bring plenty of insect spray. Ticks and chiggers are what you need to worry about.

Haha Cry tough Blues

actually the reason i was asking because because i have pups at home that will tree off feeder buckets now my coondog on the other hand will tree a coon regardless of what part of the country i put it in , the reason i asked i wanna make sure this will not be like rogersville tennesse where all they had to hunt where feeder buckets i bring coon dogs to hunts not bucket dogs as far as im concerned there should not even need to be feeder buckets anywhere if you don't have racoons and want to hunt move somewhere in the country that has racoons

feeder buckets are a joke and they cost alot of great COON DOGS hunts because good hound is not gonna beat a feeder buck DOG!

world hunt

If my memory is correct I think Big D won the world hunt when it was in Rogersville. Are you saying he was a feeder bucket coon dog? I think not.
