Bob, you brought up some good points. I was thinking as I was reading, why not film a daylight hunt. It would be easier to walk behind the dogs, and film their movements. Utilize the tree stand Idea like Bob said (I think this is a great idea) and then show more of the hunt. Then you can explain things a little better the next episode, as a follow up maybe even in the same location. Great Ideas Bob..

Deer hunting on TV

I think deer hunting on tv is a double edge sword. On one hand it has gotten a lot of people interested and sold a lot of hunting equipment. However I think it also has a lot to do with the reasons rabbit squirrell and coon hunters have less and less places to hunt. Every show convinces people that if a deer ever smells the scent of a human it will leave and never come back. Therefore these people lose their mind if they see someone in their deer hunting area.

MIKE

I AGREE MOST PEOPLE GET TORN UP TO SEE A COONHUNTER HUNTING WHERE THEY DEER HUNT.BUT THE TRUTH IS COONHUNTERS AND DOGS DON'T BOTHER DEER AS MUCH AS DEERHUNTERS DO OUT SCOUTING BEFORE SEASON AND RAMBLING ROUND LOOKING FOR SIGN AFTER SEASON ALSO GOING IN AND OUT OF STAND DURING SEASON. I AM A DEER HUNTER MYSELF.
I HAVE BEEN COONHUNTING AND HAVE WALKED BY DEER BEDDED DOWN AND RARLEY EVEN GET UP IF I DON'T GET TO CLOSE IF I DO THEY JUST TROT OFF A LITTLE WAYS.

Ok. I gotta idea. We need to team up with bone collector or somebody. Some of yall with big ol deer on the midwest need to invite them to hunt. On this hunt. Have some coon hunters in camp. Let them hunt at night and let the deer hunters film it. Then show the deer hunters killing a big one the next day. In the same area you coon hunted the night before. We coon hunters know it can be done. We need the deer hunters to know. The way things are nowdays. They would believe anything they see on tv

Tom Nelson (from Dead Down Wind's American Archer) used to coon hunt. I bought his last dog from him. It wouldn't hurt to contact him and see if he'd come on the show and vouch for the hound hunting not hurting the deer hunting. Just another idea......

Bob, that's a great idea! Do you happen to still have Tom's contact information?

No , but we should be able to get ahold of him from DownWinds website. If not , he may still be writing for the Wood and Water magazine here in Michigan also.
I'll check and see what I can find and get back with you.

Bob, I checked Dead Down Wind and couldn't find it, but websites are usually pretty conservative on giving out "celebrity's" contact information. If you are able to find it, or have a lead I could follow, drop me a PM or give me a call at 219-614-0654.

Thanks!
David Schmidt

I couldn't find anything either.
You might be able to get ahold of him through Wolf Creek Productions , or whatever it is. You'd probably have a better chance at it than I would. LOL
