I can't handle a single shot rifle. Maybe I just stink at shooting but when its cold or wet and its always dark I don't feel like hand loading one shot at a time.

If you got a single shot like my old antique that is very long and very heavy, it don't take but one shot many times. I can't shoot at all, Im a terrible shot, but with that old winchester I can hit. Its extremely long for a .22 and heavy also. And its got regular sights. Good old iron sight rabbit ears.

Me too , I had a crappy old rifle from my daddy I started with. The coon was on the outside and I hit himin the neck but by the time I could dig out the shuck a time or two he got in the hollow palainly visible. To hech with that stuff . I am a graeat shot I shhoot to kill . I like a rest if i can get one but many times just by an inch or two, I can't. An automatic will not make up for poor shooting nor a sorry scope. So Scope it in and kill him first shot with a descent rifle is what I say. Always use a semi auto and have it accurate.

Them semi automatics scare me. They go off if you drop them or bump them. My buddy didn't believe me. He had a Ruger 10 / 22 and he pulled the knob back and then put the safety on. Nothing was in it. I checked. Now I said hand it to me. I simply held it about a foot off the ground and dropped it Butt - first down on the concrete. The saftely came completely off and the action thing closed up all the way. I will never coon hunt with any kind of semi - automatic again !!! YOu got a coon comeing down the tree, dogs bark and screaming and dragging you everywhere all over the woods and jerking on the leashes, your slipping in the mud about to fall down, Your trying to hold your light and hold the rifle too, sweat is pouring down your face in your eyes and fog from your breath all the place so you can't half see. I want it to be so that the ONLY WAY a bullet is in the chamber is if I PUT IT IN THERE MYSELF.

They don't scare me. Pull out the clip and stick it in your pocket. Shuck the ejecter a time or three. Spit on the ground and chalk it up to one imaginary bullet you might have lost. Hold it up and dry fire it. It goes click. Hunt by myself like I do with my dogs and the only thing that can possibly be hit by an imaginary buullet is me or my dog or an imaginary coon. Conversely, you have a point , My friend is an Engineer ,what they call a "belt and suspenders" engineer. He don't want his big old belly to pop his belt so he wears Suspenders justin case of a worser case a scenario. Bless him. Course he is also worried about catching AIDS in a briar patch I lead him through caause some of my lady friends have not been checked out thoughholy enough to satisfy him. Never the less . Every time you kill a coon with old Trusty you got there: I recon you could pour some quickqrete down th barrel of her to make her safer. LOL LOL Or unscrew the barrel of your cricket and pack her full of mud LOL.

LOL I like your storys. They are funny. , but seriously, what I mean is this. You got that 10 round clip in there. You shoot the 3rd shot and down comes the coon. Your mind is going a thousand different directions and everything is happening all at once. Wheres my pup ? wheres the big dog ? where did the coon land ? Is it fighting ? did it get away ? is my pup getting eat up ? Where is the lead snap ? Why can't I get this leash untangled !!!?? Where is the coon going ? My light fell off my head, gotta pick that up ! .............. Now, in all that confusion guess what you just forgot ? YOU GOT A BULLET IN THE CHAMBER !!!!!! You know why ? Not cause you put it in there, not cause you need it . But its in there simply cause you pulled the trigger that 3rd shot and the coon came down. Now that 4th shell is ready to shoot. Did you bump the trigger ? Did you drop the gun by accident ? I don't know, check and see if your hunting buddy is still alive and if your dog has bullet holes in him yet ! Thats my point.

I see what you mean but my mind is not flying off in a thouand different direction. It is just another dead coon and before I pick it up by the ankles I pull the clip and shuck her and dry fire it.

And even check out the safety again.

I know the feelin , Larry. I use a tactile sling that keeps it in front or right next to my side and with the gun short I get around pretty good.

People can say what they want but if it aint broke dont fix it

Again Thanks for the input and also on the price for the Thompson Going to check it out

Just getting back. I was leading my layup leopard out and he grabbed a tree and treed. I told my buddy, this is the same dangum oak he treed one in about three weeks ago, I can't believe he can remember that long. I flickeded my light and there is another coon. I shot him in the head and he got to wggling He got in a fork fixing to fall and my buddy said" shoot him in th e ass , he will fall. I shot him in the ass and he died on the spot and hung up. I said I won't listen much to you nomo. So I went to the front side and shot him 5 or 6 times right in the head but he still hung. My leopard still watching the comotion with his blue eye and ain't saying a word. After I said come hyar, you should have seen the look he gave me. I fell down laughing at that and when I got got back home to unload him , his five month old nephew gave me the same look about that tree. That pup cannot be that smart, can it?
