I have squalled hundreds out with my mouth and with a squaller. Not sure which one works the best. Some coon will respond to the squaller and some to the mouth. I have squalled them out of den trees and right down to the hounds. I have squalled and they jump out from 40 feet up. Some coon won't even look up when squalled but others seem to be ready for action.

OK. heres a challenge for all you coon squalling experts. First one to Post a video of you squalling a coon down a tree all the way to the ground with dogs treeing and i will send you a nice crisp $20 bill. I Been hearing these stories for 40 years and have blown in darn near every kind of squaller made and have never seen it done.

Coons with holes shot in them or collars on dont count.

John, contact mleck (Marcus Leck) or Ed Green on squalling one out. Opening night of season Roy and Rebel treed a nice size boar coon and we had no gun. I squalled Mr Coon right down the tree and the battle was on. Save me the trouble and just send the $20.

It's really neat to see one run out to the end of a limb 40 feet up and go sky diving. This doesn't happen often but I have seen a few do it.

I'll send Hoosier Man the audio to see if he can post the audio. No email so I'll email an audio to John. my email is down will attempt it later. How would you post an audio?

trying to post audio?

coon.wav - 0.53MB

Click on URL and listen. This sound has brought many coon down the tree and right into the hounds mouth. It sure gets a young dog fired up to see one crawl down the tree to do battle.

Getting one to come clear to the ground works best if you pull the hounds back 15 feet from the tree. However, I have had many come right on down.

I told you that you would do anything for money. LMAO

I have squalled more coons out of trees than shot out during the winter months. Elbrader is the master at it though. I have seen him bring them out of den trees right down to the dogs i have seen them run out of holes in the ground right between my leggs while he was squalling. Very few times can he not get one down if he wants it there. when a coon is coming down the treeing and your standing there squalling you better be far enough back from the base of the tree that when they finnally jump the last 3-20 feet that they dont get on you. half the time they will make the leep to land right square on the light you are shinning on them.

The difference is the coons just like the deer and turkeys,in the Midwest I have seen some of the dumbest animals there are, turkeys come across a wide open field 5 at a time, you don't need scent lock for deer, and I'm sure the coons are the same way! And to prove it one of you guys that has all this luck of squalling the coons to jump and down the tree etc....you can stay at my house and I will put you on. Some coons and I would be impressed if you could just make them look not jump, breakdance are whatever else y'all can say you do,just look consistently and I will say you are doing something! The only time these coons look is after they have a little lead in them,my number is 571-233-5819

Wow, this is a great read.

Type of squaller is not the key, but knowing when to stay soft and when to get excited with the tones. Also, know to keep your light dim and behind the coon. Most of the time a coon will not run toward a bright light.

In over fifty years of running coondogs I have seen hundreds and hundreds squalled right down the tree. Usually down to about 15 feet from the ground, out a low limb, and jump as far as they can.

In the past month:
1.Shot one out, while the dogs were finghting it, the second coon slipped out. We had a great race after the fight.
2. Squalled a big boar right down the tree. He jumped from about 20 feet, had a 15 minute race. Treed him again, then shot him out.
3. Squalled a young coon right out of the top of a tree. Shook some vines and squalled, he went sky diving. Dogs caught him in the water.
4. Last night, squalled and this coon went out a limb and bailed as far as possible. After a 30 minute race, treed it again in a hollow.

Not all coons will squall out. Some will never move, others will look but not move, some will move around but never come down, others will move and not stop 'til they are headed for the hills. If you are good with a squaller, you can usually tell the 'nervous ones' real quick. Just takes some practice.

I believe coons that are treed often are harder to squall out, than coons that have never heard a squaller.

They cut and splice alot of film together to make a 15+ min. clip like that. Its entirely possible that they had already done some squalling before the camera got set up on the coon and that's why he was moving around so much. Coons don't typically move around like that unless they hear a squaller or you are shaking vines or the tree. I guess you might see a nervous coon once in a great while.....but it's got to be very rare that it would come right down a tree to the dogs without some provocation of some sort....jmo.....Shane

I use a Timothy Ball wooden one and can squall 'em out. But, I've never been able to do it in full light. Red pop cover works best. I have squalled them out of hiding with full light but they jumped trees or moved to different places, never down.

I will say I've had several times where another guy would squall with his and nothing....then I light up mine and they move instantly. That didn't happen with my previous one, so I attribute it to the squaller.

More squalling

I had to search for this post. I see that the date is almost 3years old. Was wondering if any had a good clip of a coon squalled out yet. I am having trouble getting one to even look at me, much less come down outta the tree with my dog at the bottem. I have the "2 lookin down" squaller.
