I personally don't think she would be any sweeter with straighter teeth. On second thought, I may have to reconsider, for she has been a little on the mean side lately. Now that I think about it, heck, I'm going to get off this computer and see if I can straighten out my wife's tail.

LMAO!!!!! There was a local man, named Herman Woody, that had curly tailed black and tans. He had some that had curly tails like a pig, no joke. Of course, Mr. Woody's dogs were heavily inbred. Mr. Woody has passed on, but you would've had to have seen these dogs to believe it. Great looking hounds but a lot of them had pig tails.

The three curled-tailed dogs I've had were all Plotts and their tails look about like Majestics pic of red hammer, maybe just a tiny bit farther curled. One was mean as heck to other dogs, but was a coondog and a half if you hunted him alone. Ended up getting rid of him cause I couldn't hunt him with other dogs, same as I'd do with a mean dog that had a stright tail. The other 2 were awesome dogs and both had very good temperaments to dogs and people. In fact one of them was a pup out of the other and I kept him on purpose even though he had a curled tail. One other pup from that litter had one too and a guy picked him for the tail. Went on to make that guy a great dog and never got into a fight with another dog as far as I know.

I personally don't care about appearance, so what their tail looks like is of little consequence to me. A good looking dog to me is one that is barking up a tree with the meat up there. But to say a breeder should put a pup in the ground because of a curled tail is just plain stupid.

The tail curls because something is wrong with their hind end .... those curl tail dogs always walk on their tippy toes back there and never have good muscle on their hip .

They can pass on that bad hip to their pups that aren't curl tailed .. might make a fine hunting dog , but I'd not breed it and the breeder should have let you know first .

Hadn't ever heard this or experienced with the two curled tail dogs i mentioned before that I kept. Both lived to a ripe old age and died with no noticable hip problems. Not saying it can't be true just never saw it in my limited experience.

I was told that House's Tom Tom had a corkscrew type end on his tail that was trimmed back, said it was a little long too, so it worked out good all the way around! I never heard of Tom Tom throwing pups that had the same trait or mean as far as that goes. Look at an old picture of him, an you might notice how his tail is rounded in place of pointed at the end.

I've come across some information pertaining to this in articles I've read before. I wouldn't say that as a rule a curled tail means hip problems, but they can absolutely correlate. I have a blue dog with a more "curled" tail than normal, and I've always thought he was a little funky in the back end....

No , not as a rule ..... I'm not sure the name of the condition , but when a tail curls from the base and is not just broken over you will see it ..... they tip toe in their backend and I have seen pups come out from those dogs with that same back back end too.

I think a funky tail and hip dysplasia can be related sometimes too. I've only had one dog with dysplasia...he's a redbone/walker/english mix, one of my deer dogs. His tail isn't "curled" but isn't exactly normal either. It's a sad thing. He's a young dog still, so sweet and loves to hunt. He just can't keep up with the other hounds all day long. I'm going to keep him around as long as he appears not to be very uncomfortable, but I hope I never see it in a dog at my house again.
