It sustains them because canines have evolved with many scavenger tendencies. Through this evolution, the canine biochemistry has learned to tolerate many things not fit for a goat. So it truly comes down to what you are feeding for...sustaining them to exist another day, or feeding them for performance and overall quality of life. But for those that claim they "support" us..... I don't call that support. I call that taking advantage of you. But they buffalo you by plastering their name and few dollars everywhere in the name of "support". Hogwash. For those that claim that it does your dog just fine.....you are wrong. When studies are done, and results proven through these studies....these become facts, not one's uneducated opinion of what and how Fido is doing on the feed. I guess as long as they are putting one foot in front of another and taking a breath...that suits some.

well........the way i see it...ole fido is gonna live to be 10-14 yrs old as long as you worm him and give him plenty of water and a good bed to sleep in no matter what kind of feed you feed him.
those of you who think you are a dog food scientist and know more than everyone else is just fooling yourselves.

I fed the black bag and the blue bag for about a year and really didnt care for it.I had to feed to much for them to look right and I needed a land fill for all the $hit I had to pick up on a daily basis.
Fact #1-Its a 1* dog food for a high dollar
Fact #2-I buy a 4* dog food (VICTOR)for $2.00 more and same with Diamond,I get EX ATH for $ 29.00.
BUT I UNDERSTAND,YOU GET 10 MORE LBS IN A BLACK GOLD BAG!!

Your post leads me to believe you do a lot more coonhunting in the computer chair than you do in the woods.

Its not about a feed just getting a dog by. Push it 6-7 nights a week for 6 to 7 hours a night and you will find out all about your dog food. Often times you find out more than any scientist could ever tell you. We have working dogs, they aren't supposed to lay around in the yard and just exist.

Read the analysis by this independent dog food rescearch site:

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-f...-gold-dog-food/

It rates a one out of a possible five. Black Gold does a great job marketing their products and supporting events...but that doesn't make it any better for the dog.

Upon the recommendation of my local feed store owner who sells 50-75 pallets (conservative est) a week due to all the puppy mills and kennels in our area, I switched to a much less expensive feed Supreme Hi-Pro (13.99/40 lbs) for late spring and summer when the dogs aren't being hunted hard and sportmix 24/20 for the fall and winter when the dogs are being hunted often.
I also keep two English Shepherd stock dogs that are on the go all the time, to be real honest for the type of hunting we do. three to sometimes four times a week I can't tell a lot of difference in the food. The cheap Supreme does a really good job, keeps them slick and energetic, I have no complaints, much better than old roy or green bag purina.

id venture to say 95% or better dont hunt any where near what you describe.
a lot on here would like to lead others believe that they do, but reality is most "coonhunters" could get by feeding their dogs regular dog food and have them perform just fine for the amount of hunting they do most of the year.
im not real sure how a person could hold a full-time job and raise a family and hunt 6-7 nights a week and hunt 6-7 hours a night......i know i sure cant.

I think I have fed some of the best (Native 4) and some of the cheapest. We try to imagine differences but the only REAL difference I have ever noticed is how hot the dog gets in the summer. Diamond Naturals and other feeds in that class (no corn, wheat, soy) make a dog run cooler in the heat and that much I am positive of. Aside from that and possibly their coat condition, is harder to prove the great advantages of buck -a-pound dog food.

Here's my take on it..

Several years ago when there ingredients were cheaper, they had a fair dog food at a fair price. But now with the ingredients they use going up, they now have a fair dog food at a high price.

If I was Black Gold ,I would have my guys in the lab looking for a new recipe ,that would justify a man spending his money on.

Black Gold is the best dog food I've ever used, but it's too costly for me when I have more than two dogs. $31.50 per 50lbs.
