Do you guys hunt in the hunts at all? If she will leave when another dog backs her she is worthless for comp hunting. To many dogs cover in a hunt she wouldn't be able to stayed treed all night how she made grand I have no idea.

All of mine and some of yours that is what wins hunts. You will not find a dog that wins major hunts consistently that wont back another dog.

joey you hit it right on the head how she got tirled in the hunts theres alot of dishonset things go on in the hunts not saying that this is a true fact but maybe some one put a set of papers on her that is from another titled dog jmo that that could be possable i never did the hunts but had some buddys that did listen to them talk about the hunts so i know how they work i was always a pleasure hunter and that will never change if i had a dog that i knew could win in the hunts i have had serval that my buddys said they would hunt for me i always told them i dont need to prove my dogs by putting yjem in the hunts jmo

You could title a dog that leaves the tree when backed. Not every tree you make is going to have a tag along. In fact if ones that independent. Its going away from the barking babbling idiots. Going as fast as it can. Probably these others tree slick. While she is deep deep with a coon. Maybe in the north country 2 trees want take 2 hours. Here it can. Specially with a dog like that. Not only is she titled. I bet it didn't take long to do it.

She Is sired by a local no name no title pr dog.She finished to Nite Champion in 3 weekends and Grand Nite in 8 weekends.All in the south.
She will get gone and get treed by herself every time.She is just so independent that she wants to be by herself all the time.

How the world do Yall guys have a pleasure hunt. I can understand (Almost) how you want to win on the weekends but if your Buddy calls and wants to turn em loose on a Wednesday night, do you have to take different trucks because your mess will be a mile in the opposite direction? If thats the case I bet Yall have a lot of lonely nights thinking about your next big Win.
Me, I had rather have a dog who did its job regardless of the company they were turned out with and at the end of the night everyone had a good time, including the Owners. I guess thats the difference between a Hunter and the Guy looking to win, I win every night I turn loose.

LOL independence IS NOT running a mile to get away from the other dogs. Its pretty easy to realize why there are so many crap eaters around after reading some of these responses......

what is your definition of a dog that backs? is it a hound that is working a track but another hound gets ahead of it and trees the coon first? or is it a hound that is just wondering around in the woods doing nothing and hears another hound tree and trys to kill itself to get there?

I like an independent dog, but a dog that is to independent will hurt you where I'm from. 1 coon track and 4 dogs, you either get in on that one or your dogs a mile away. I had to sell a dog I really liked because he wanted to be by himself all the time. If he didn't hit the track first, he wouldn't run it with another dog, and would go find another coon, no matter how far it was.
JMO those real independent dogs are nice in places with alot of coons, but if coons are thin you better have tennis shoes on cuz your in for a walk.

seems to me what most dogs lack is BALANCE between the two
most of the top hounds that can win anywhere are usually well balanced dogs
unfortunetly some people get to obseesesd with breeding for one trait instead of for a well balnced dog.

Put a Garmin on the coon and you still won't have to go head to head with a track dog. You can call your buddy and say mine did a 7.6 what did your's do? LOL

You can Grand a dog like this now because the hunts are so small. Often times, there is only 1 NtCh cast with 2 or 3 dogs in it. You don't have to have the big score like you used to have to get a win.

AS far as Im concerned a dog should have 1 thing on its mind..

FIND A COON AND TREE IT.

If they are worried about being alone or what the other dogs are doing they arent thinking right IMO.

Try taking your female into the other dogs when they tree and letting her smell up the tree and tie her back. make sure she starts treeing as well. Maybe this will help her a little... Its possible that she was jumped on at the tree as a young pup and she is scared its gonna happen again so she dont tree with others. I personally want my dog by itself as much as possible. I will win every time with a independent dog. But if its leaving trees thats a problem.

I think we have a bigger issue in breeding our hounds and its mean tree dogs! One of the top bred dogs today is reproducing fighting dogs and he was one himself. Most people know it and still breed to him. "They say they want there dog to stand there ground". Thats BS
