John you bring up a lot of good points and you are right. I hadn't thought about it but shock collar training does take training. It takes more than voice becouse mine knows to come on voice command long befor they get tought to come with the vibrator. The shock is ONLY used when they don't mind the command. Which doesn't happen very often after they have learned they have to mind. Then they are in the habbit and mind wether they have the collar on or not.

[i]The shock collar rule is unenforceable anyway simply because the cast isnt togeather during timeots when people are driving around trying to round up dogs before the hour catches them so how would anyone know if the button gets pushed? So that brings us back to the HONOR part of the rules and i must admit i dont have the faith in my felow man that i once had. [/B]

Exactly my point. They shouldn't be allowed at all. I use shock collars. I have a tritronics classic 70 G2EXP 4 dog system. It has been handy. But shouldn't be allowed in COMPETITIONS. Some dogs are completely different with or with out shock collars.

Most dogs that are differant with a shock collar on has not been trained with a shock collar. They have just been punished with one. There is a big differance.

Agreed, but what difference does that make? Some people misuse alot of tools. Why should they have an advantage?

You are probably right at some point in time they will. I hope that UKC will host two types of hunts. That should be simple enough and you decide which one to hunt in.
One type hunt for the GameBoy Laptop hunter where all the latest technology is required to even think about winning. Logged in and computer takes care of all the time countdowns, track speed , auto navigation to signal the dog whenever it is heading to roads, private land etc.

The second type of hunt has no technology other than a light, a compass and a watch with an hour hand to call the end of the hunt. No time outs, no keeping up with the 1, the 5 and the 8. No leashlocking etc. just hunt one hour or two hours.

Mark my words, when they start putting GPS on coons lots of eyes will be opened as to what a coon and a dog is really doing. But I guess the laptop fellows will soon develop the technology to auto navigate signal if he overshoots a track or false trees etc. Automatically shocking them off blank trees sure would save alot of hunting time and circle/minus points LOL.

Yep, big differance in hunting your own ground and hunting were guides take you some time. Lets face it though. We are out numbered by people that hunt large areas and don't have to worry about it. There dogs are dumped miles away from a highway much less an interstate and there dogs have to run miles to get to one and they can beet them there in there truck.

There would be places some of these guides take us that I wouldn't dump but the second type I would go for. I would like to add to that the takeing away of strike points and score tree points only. I would like that hunt. Might have to add that they have to open on track but just dont get points for it.

I agree. I just dont think if a cast has to call time out that somebody should be able to just shock their dog back to them when I have spent the time to properly train mine. I dont have a problem with a dog wearing a collar or the handler withdrawing their dog and shocking it back or shocking it after the hunt time runs out. I dont understand the reasoning for all dogs having to be handled before somebody can shock their dog.

I DO! but very seldom. If the Hunts are your thing lets face it you got to pleasure hunt practicing the rules. Practice, practice practice, which means clicking a stopwatch etc which drives me crazy. So I am not good in the hunts. I would be better with a laptop keeping up will all that bull for me with all kinds of sensors and meters hanging all over the dog. LOL.

Obviously, the second type of hunt would be for those that think you have to hunt for a coon before you can run a coon and you got to run a coon before you can tree a coon. I don't have a problem with a dog wearing a hundred MINUS strike points for quiting it's track and coming into the tree. I do have a problem with a dog that probably gets second strike, you hear her open a time or two when the other dogs has made a temporary loss but you ain't hearing much because she is hitch hiking. Her saving grace is that she is a very fast and accurate locator. She will probably get first tree and if she doesn't before another dog can get his locate bark all the way out she will be on it too, So I can go ahead a tree her on your dogs locate if you want to dilly dally around a second or two. I don't thnk much of her though. The only way to beat her is to let her accumulate minus strike points because she is very competitive and she would rather quit her track and beat your dog to the tree. LOL.

I'll bet you would be a hoot to hunt with on a fun hunt. We could give each other a lot of crap in the woods. LOL
I never practice on fun hunts. That would take all the fun out of it. I go to club hunts for fun and to visit. I guess that has something to do with why I never win. LOL

You probably win more than you let on. And yes, it would be a hoot. I wish I could travel But the IRS has me turnt every which way but loose "cause they think I was a rich man" not doing my share . But anyway who could care less, nobody can get blood out of a a Rich old man that has done already had all his blood sucked clean out of him in the neighbor Hoodlums of $900,000 lifetime, voluntary, plus $300 ,000 they figure my house I bought for $30,000 and worked on till 4 AM every night. Then they tell me I won't even get SSI because I am IN debted to the Bastards. You reckon I feel Guilty? Hell NO. 0h. It would be a Hoot though. Enjoy each day to it's fullest is what I reckon. I sure hope you can get here to have that hunt. We will both leave our woes and wants on the side of a bush we decide to leave them on before we go hunting and we shall have a ball.

So when you tone a dog in does it come to you or does it go to the truck? I sure wouldn't want to tone mine back to me if he was already across the road. But I'm a low tech hunter anyways I 99% of the time catch my dog at the tree.lol

Well mine heads back to were they saw me last. When they get in hearing distance I call them to let them know were to come. When they get across the river here some times I have to call them back even in pleasure hunting. If they go over dureing a ukc hunt the hunt is over. You are going to spend the rest of the night driveing around to the other side and walking in.

oh no sir you must think that i am yappin my hounds up like they are the most well behaved hounds around this is not the case i discipline my hounds and train with them everyday run em socialize them take em out on the property they know when they hear that horn or me call em up they come that simple sort of like when you tell your lap dog to sit and he does now ive had dogs that dont comply with training and i just get rid of them
