feeding raw is agreat ideal but mixing raw with kibble isn't the best ideal. sounds like in the original post he got a bad bag of feed . I never had trouble with the sportsblend mix i feed it year round and add 2 raw eggs a day dogs do good

I have never feed diamond food but I just started feeding native II 26-16 and love it I thougt it was going to be to expensive sense it is 20.00 a bag higher but I am feeding half the amount of food that I was so its working out about the same price and alot less cleanup their coats look better and energy level is great. I like the native brand alot. it has no corn in it so they diagest it better less waist smaller piles and firmer.

I have never had an issue with diamond dog feed and will continue to use it. You are going to have issues with every dog food sooner or later.

There is more to it than what they put on the bag. It is EXTREMELY important where the ingredients come from/ quality control. Purina has some of the best quality control. I feed puppy chow to 1 yr, and use it for pregnant females. Dog chow for older dogs not being ran much, and pro-plan performance for dogs being run hard. It is excellent feed from an excellent company. Worth a couple dollars more per month to know they are safe. Our Dalmatian made tv comercials for purina, coupon adds, calendars, clocks, etc. If you ever get a chance to tour the company do it. They do amazing things in K-9 research as well. All is safe and humane for the animals. Many things should be considered when purchasing feed.

I have noticed my best dog hasn't touched his food bowl in about a week. It did get kind of warm here in Southwestern Indiana. I feed my dogs all Diamond Chicken and Rice. My newest pup will eat it after he gets hungry but won't attack the bowl. My oldest hound which is a grade hound will attack the bowl, but other than that I have noticed a change... Might look else where..maybe Black Gold.

Mooredog, no offense taken just giving a few good reasons why I use the Purina. Learned a lot about the company while involved with the program.

I won some Black Gold and it was excellent dog food. Not as familiar with the company. Dogs did real good on it, healthy and good energy/stamina and had high digestability. Hard to get in my area and hard for me to order large quantities with only a few dogs.

LOYALL is what we have fed our ROTT for a few months now and she looks and acts fine. Started feeding it to the beagles a week ago and they eat it up and look good but too early to see how they will do . No more Diamond here-just whats on the wifes fingers.

Hi-Standard Dog Food

You guys check out Hi-Standard dog food. I have been feeding it for about 3 years now and I will never switch. I feed a lot less with less stool and their coats are awesome.

It is going for about $25.00 for 50lbs bag up her in MN. Buy it by the pallet and save about $2.00 per bag.

The US Govt is feeding it to their sniff dogs down at the airport in Minneapolis. They broke it down under a micro scope and said of all the dog foods they have broke down Hi-Standard was the best by far for ingredients and cost. My own vet even feeds it to her dogs.

Go out Hi-Standarddogfood.com and click on distributor or dealer. Click on your state or states around you and it will tell you who sells it.

Every body up here is saying that Diamond is suppose to take a big price jump in the next couple of months.

Good luck!

Been feeding Hi-Standard for several years, beautiful coats, dogs have tons of energy and stamina and very easy kennel clean up. Paying around $20 per 50lb of 26-18.

been feeding hi-standard for awhile, no complaints whatsoever on the dog food. hi -standard raised their price $1 in december, thought about switching but then soon found out that all dog foods have taken some pretty hefty jumps here lately.

looks like with the price of corn etc......all dog foods will be going up again here shortly.
Good luck!

diamond

I am very happy with 4Health from TSC. Its somewhat affordable, and it makes the dogs nice and shiney. I got a bag of Diamond in early March. First time I ever bought it. It was on sale or something. Dogs dont like it. I am no Dogpoopologist, but there is way more filler in Daimond, then they say. So what else is in it? ......Other foods friends and I have had good results with: Evo, Innova, Nutro natural, Nutrisource. (all no corn or wheat)

Hey Mike Carder, Just would like to know how your hounds are doing now that you changed there food. I feed my hound Eukanuba Premium Performance 30/20 $48.00 for a 40lbs bag. I know that is expensive but I can afford it just having one hound. JMO she is doing excellent and has all kinds of energy, her coat looks real nice. Has anyone tried this food and if so how is it doing for your hounds? I have been thinking about changing to Blue Buffalo just to try something new for my hound. Mike hope your hounds are doing OK now.

My hounds

They are doing great now. I have found Black Gold feed again. I have to drive a good ways to get it. But buy enough to make the trip worth it. I have 6 dogs here and 48$ a bag is way to expensive to feed. Lol. But the dogs are all doing real good again. Thanks.

Glad to know you're dogs are doing better mike..Love these dog food posts lol. I've been purina pro plan since about december. I've been feeding anywhere from 5-11 dogs at a time (2 house dogs included). $42.99 a bag at T.S.C right now going through one bag a week. Bags are 37.5 lbs I've been feeding about a 2 cups a and the dogs are getting fat except the two i've been running up everyday. Will never feed any other puppy food besides purina puppy chow. The last two litters of pups i've raised have had the best looking shiniest coats they looked GREAT. the ones i've kept went straight from purina puppy puppy chow to purina pro plan, and they are the 2 best looking dogs in my kennel. The rest are slowly catching up. Would like to try call of the wild dog food, but for goodness sake 40 some bucks for a 30LBS bag is absolutely out of the question...gotta go pay some bills with what money i have left after buying dog food LOL! The piece of mind of knwoing my dogs are eating good is just about priceless to me. I'm still gaining weight here lately too so appreantly i can still afford to feed that to my dogs and eat well myself as well so i'll stick with it for now. Anyone who would be interested go out and buy a bag of pro plan and a bag of the 25.00 dollar dog foods and open them at the same time, and you tell the differencei n quality just from the smell and moisture, purina is more like a food and less like a crunchy dry kibble. That is something I've noticed. if you're dogs are doing good enough for you that is all that matters. I definitley question myself everytime i fork over 100 bucks for 2 bags of dog food at the cash register.

Ohlinger

Know exactly what you are saying. I am paying approximatley 25 dollars for a bag of Black Gold right now. When i opened up the bag of Diamond it looks dry, but when i open up the Black Gold i can see and smell the difference in them. I dont have to feed 2 cups a day to my hounds when feeding this either. 1-1.5 cups a day and they are still lean and very healthy. Coats look great. I notice that when i am running them on Black Gold thier recouperation time is less. But who knows? I have been getting some advice on a raw food diet from a certain buddy up in NY and i might try that once i start running again. . Holler at me some time buddy.

raw is great if you can find a good connection on meat, and have the time to do all the prep that is involved...get the bags of chicken thighs at wal-mart for like 5 or 6 bucks one of those a day does pretty well, cooked white rice, i fed raw about this time last year only had 4 dogs. Picked up a few more dogs, and it became to much of a task to keep up with. If you know any butchers my buddy elliot had a guy who hooked us up with a box of ground chuck waste, and beef fat scraps about 40-60lbs a week.

ihave had no problem with diamond . ifeed the diamond sporting dog 24-20. if i recalldiamond was not the only feed that was effecting dogs.the only alternative feed i know of is pride. it is very close to the same feed just a different manufacurer. the only tricki cantell u is give them a hot dog if they eat it . theres something in the feed.
