i just dont think people should put much stock in the htx titles as they will mean nothing to me, just because your stud is a HTX ch does not mean i will breed or want a pup off of him, i want a go git treed quick be right loud stay put all night no trash holds pressure dog, i have owned hunted dogs who could tree coon an pass htx i wouldnt give $100 for any off them

What ever floats your boat..

I am not really trying to put down your accomplishments...But I guess growing up coonhunting ...part of the excitement was not that your dog could tree a coon but could he or she kick a$$ in the process against all odds !!!Who had the best in our end of the world Were they the best and could they prove it !!!!! Not OH YEA!!!!!!!!!! my dog can tree a racoon....Is that old school or the real world????

I dont understand why everyone wants to bash someone for doing something that he or she enjoys. if someone thinks that passing a hunt test is easy, then just try one you may change your mind. I tried the regular hunts did pretty well but got tired of rough dogs and arguing" not all cast" just got tired of it. the pass rate on a hunt test is only about 33%. not to good, and this is all dogs not just open dogs... good luck to everyone in what ever type of hunting you choose............

i like the idea of htx and will be doing some myself sounds like my kind of huntin i'm tired of hunting in hunts were fast dogs can and will run trash and tree trash and still win it's only a minus in reg.cast i've buddy hunted with many a trashy night champion hounds just because its a night champ don;t make it a coondog imo i think all night hunt entries should earn the right to be in a night hunt htx x 3 would keep that trash from huntin in the first place just how i see it!!!!

it may get rid of the trash problem but it wont get rid of the rough dogs, or the competitive guys who say win at all cost. no holds barred....

What does it prove ???

I do not understand what a dog treeing a coon on his own proves ...most country yard dogs can do the same... Doing it it style...Louder faster more accurate drown out the rest while doing it and better than the rest is what I was brought up to believe was what was the thrill of it all... and the true test of a real superior dog and one worthy of recognition and breeding to improve the breed.

I agree!!!! to many paper champion's, and its a shame I used to think that a nite champ or a grand nite was really a good dog, but since I have hunted with several of them there are alot that I wouldn't even pour a bowl of food in front of. I know that it doesn't mean all are no good but there are alot that are made by good handlers not good work.....

I'm planning to enter my male Zam in his first one this coming weekend, why? For the fun of it. He don't have to prove nothing to me or the 50 or so people that have hunted with him. But it helps the clubs out and I get to spend time in the woods, enjoying the moment. To me it's all about the fun, friendship and the thrill of hearing your dog open up. You take the fun outta doing what you like to do, you soon ain't doing it.

see that you just prooved how **** dumb you really are. If the dog does not tree the coon in 8 minutes after it opens up it will be faulted. If its mean it will be faulted and then failed. So no a dog can not trail a coon for 50 minutes and then tree it and pass. I think it's the other way around you night hunt folks are afraid to put your dogs in HTX hunts because they can tree a coon without 3 other dogs help.. mhmmmm..??

do you guys really believe htx titles are given away to dogs just for treeing a coon? you still are playing by nite hunt rules just doing it without the help of other dogs.i have done both & believe the htx title just proves youre nt or gr nt dog is not counterfit. it takes all slick handling out of the end result.

coonhunter, I'm sorry to point out the obvious, but a dog is not required to be treed within 8 minutes of being struck. The dog is only required to bark a least once every 8 minutes while on track. In theory a dog could very weel trail for 74 minutes then be declared treed and still pass a hunt test. (RULE 4 B B) Open on Track - Dogs must open on track at least every 8 minutes. Dogs that tree without first opening on track will not be penalized, nor will they receive a pass on that track for the open trailing requirement. ALSO RULE 2 Dogs shall be hunted for one hour. If the dog is trailing as time runs out, hunting time may be extended for an additional 15 minutes if the dog has not completed the requirements for a pass during the hour. Dogs shall be picked up prior to completion of the hour for having committed two of the listed standard faults or the same standard fault on two separate occasions.

I'm glad you cleared that up. If I want to be confident of getting them within eight minutes I better hunt in Oct and Nov. Last time out they trailed about an hour and half and only went 1.8 miles here and yonder but were split 8 paces apart with coons.

Where's a link to the rules?

l.lyle, Go to the UKC homepage and click on upcoming events. You will see a drop box for choosing the type of event. Choose coonhound events. On the events page look to the right and you will see Licensed Hunt Test. Click on the hunt test. On the hunt test page you will see Rules & policies.

Folks there are loopholes in nearly everything in life. Nearly every kind of test or competition in this entire world has some type of loop hole. I guess it boils down to personal integrity and values. If YOU know your dog earned it right , then YOU can be proud. Thats how I see it.
