I hunt a lot by myself I have only killed 5 coons all season if you shoot a lot of coons out dogs will start slick treeing a lot more thinking they r going to get a coon

About all this talk of the dogs will start slick treeing if you shoot out coons to them,, I've seen the opposite of this. I have shot truck loads of coons, all in season of course, and my hounds were always tight and right. When people say, they pull up slick to get the coon shot faster,, my mind thinks these people never trained a hound in there life. You are way underestimating the intelligence of these hounds, they know if that coon is there when they park, If your hound is pulling up short,, the reason isn't because he or she has had coons shot out to them.

You know you may be right but I don't believe in shooting ever coon a dog trees. I train every one of my pups and hounds and I don't think a dog should have a coon every time a dog trees I would love to tree that coon again sometime.

No, I agree, they do not need everyone they tree,, but I have never trained a dog to slick tree by shooting some coons to them .

Me either but a friend of mine had a walker male he kept shooting coons out to him and now he slick trees a lot I won't hunt with him now

I've never hunted a spot that could withstand rolling one out every time you hunt there. If you tree 3 or more here a night you are doing great. Our population took a big hit in the 80-90's (diseases like distemper) and the population still hasn't come back. Plus all the old farms that would plant corn and other food sources have since shut down. You used to be able to drive in any direction for 2-3 miles and find 5-8 operating farms. And the old farms my dad, uncle and Grandpa used to hunt are all split up into smaller parcels.
I might roll 5 out a season or so. Not because you shouldn't harvest any but I don't have the time to do all the work after rolling it out. And if you want top $ here you have to do all the fleshing and drying. To me its not worth it. You get $7-15 for green hide vs. $25-40 for finished hide. But there"s a lot of work that goes into that $25-40.
