Just thought I would give an update. Almost thru my first bag of EA $27 at local milling company. I am feeding a little less the my old food which was $20 a bag so cost wise it is pretty much a wash. The dogs, particularly my old dog is looking good on it. he is getting about 3 cups a day and already looks more trim. Not skinny but he does seem more lean. His coat is shiny. He does seem to be a little peppier but I think its do to feeling better vs having any kind of extra "buzz" from the food. I equate it to myself when I lose a few unwanted lbs. I know it makes me feel better an lord knows i could lose a few more. Clean up is noticably better. Just getting started with EA but so far so good. The pups are doing well on it too but their physical difference isn't as noticable. To each his own but for now I am going to stick with it. Good luck.

Well, it's good to see some honest-to-goodness posts about it instead of the hoopla we have been seeing.

Nice goin Randy, you woke so many up this morning your question was forgot about completely and they havent had their coffee yet and are argueing "again" over dog feeds

My guess would be its not the dog feed. Nothing against Forest but im thinking the problem lies from sending him to NC. Ive done this alot and seen the dogs go through changes. Mine go north to south and vs versa. Even the guys that I send the dogs too say they have seen diferences in behavior at times, not all the time but sometimes. You may have to iron those issues out and put his mind back to your way of thinking.
BTW I am still feeding the Hunters Edge formula. Its made by a company called Formax from Louisville, KY. The company bought the formula off Enhance and its doing a decent job for me although I have not been able to hunt much this year and does not look good for this summer. Last winter I was feeding the Diamond Chicken and Rice all natural and had to switch to the EA to put some lbs back on the dog when I was hunting 7 nights a week, he got pretty thin for me. I never saw any behavior problems.

Here are a few of my dogs after a little more than a month on EA. These are all dogs I'm actively conditioning for events right now.

3 year old female

1 year old male

1 year old male, littermate to previous (thanks Mike Niemyer for putting the better background on what is actually one of the best photos I have of this guy)

Same two boys above, taken last weekend at Wal-cur days

First puppy I've tried on EA..she's 5 months old. Excuse the fact that she isn't standing perfect, she's only green broke on the bench.

I personally like the "look" I've got on my dogs since I've been feeding them EA. Their coats look good, and they keep weight on without looking too fat...

Thank you. The Walker female is hard to keep a pile of weight on, but on this feed she's kept a "fit" look.

I used to feed Diamond High Energy and when I switched to ProPlan it was night and day .. same dogs just had more umph and it was like they were just better dogs ... but they didn't get more trashy or cocky from it ....

I feed the EA and I think it's better now than before ... most feeds start off good and then skimp ... but this stuff is holding or improving so I'll stick with it .

Hey Sabrina

do you have any pics of that little female you and I talked about at
arkabutla last month? Sure would love to see one if you can round one up.
Hope all is going well for yall. You going to try to go to St. Jude?
Right now if all goes well might try and show Boots. She is out of shape. Took her hunting for the first time in a while the other night.
We will see.

I"m not going to feed any Diamond EA. Look what it did to s/s's dogs, turned them all red. Sure wouldn't want my Holsteins to turn different color. LOL! By the way them are some good looking Red dogs. SCBLUETICKGAL what I see in your dogs is more then just a good feed. They look like you have put a lot of time and work into them and it shows.

LMBO!! Thank you Seeker!

Rick, I do..Let me see what I can pull up...By the way, I may be trying to find her a new home..I don't think things are working out where she is now

Here she is Rick...She's a lil bitty thing, but solid as a rock..When I had her she was about 40lbs. not sure about now.
This pic is Hot Dog at about 3 months(pup shown above) and Twang on the right. There's about a years difference in ages.

Hot Dog(at 4 to 5 mo.) and Twang(on right)...Too cute, I had to add it

Lee- After a little time to think about it and 6 nights in a row with him I have him back down to earth. I think it might have been a combination of his environment changing, weather changing here and being on a feed that had his energy at a peak level. He happened to have an e-collar on when he got stupid with the grinner. When he faced barked at the dog I mentioned we had a slight discussion at the time with 85lbs of dog dangling in the air with hands wrapped around his neck and I haven't seen it since. He was being fed Purina Dog Chow at Forrest's. It was good for Forrest and his dogs he has, but, I had issues in the past with skin and coat (as a lot of Black dogs do..) on certain feeds. I'm actually just "dosing" him up with a bag of the EA. His coat has shine back in it and the hot spot he came home with is almost gone. The dealer I got the Enhance from has discontinued carrying it so I'm looking. Now, I'm sure some educated idiot will come on here with his insultive language and take another shot at me. I'm hoping not. I can remember him saying to someone on here that they don't know him and shouldn't talk that way to him. He doesn't know me and might want to be careful with the same thing....

Sabrina

that is some of the cutest pics I've seen. She is a beauty. If we didn't have so many around here, I would just bring her here and let her have the farm to herself.
she is beautiful.
thx for sharing the pics.
You have some of the best looking red dogs going for sure. You are doing a lot for the Red dogs and are truly a breeder who is always looking to raise the bar of the breed you are hunting. Us walker folks should do the same. Most are just breeding for titles and whatever is hot at the moment instead of lining up breeding characteristics and breeding the best to the best. Keep it going girl.

The dog feed debate will go on and on. The unfortunate reality is that it won't be because the facts aren't accurate. Nobody wants to believe or be told that what they feed is junk compared to some other feeds. They immediately start coming up with statements that are entirely inaccurate and wholeheartedly impossible for them to prove. "It works for me and mine" while it may be true, it shows more of the type of standard they expect from their dogs while giving them an "out" that can't be debated. Study after study has shown us what our dogs need to perform at a much higher level, nutritionally speaking. It is obvious that it is an area of interest for some, and not for others. Cheap feed at a cost of under $25 is all the standards that some have. The downside to that is twofold.....one, is that the quality of life they provide their dogs isn't as good as it could be. Having an interest in the breeds as a whole, I will always try and get folks to improve the quality of life of dogs, not just my dogs. The second concern is more from a breeding standpoint.......on any board you will see dozens of dogs for sale and dozens of litters for sale. If one never maximizes the genetic potential of their breeding stock...will this not have a negative effect to their breeding program? I think so. How many times have we seen on the boards where someone posts that their prized dog just up and died? or have some type of tumor, or growth irregularity? I have been politely asking what they have been feeding and more often than not, it is one of the brands of feed that is promoted on here by those with lower feed standards. This is no coincidence. It certainly isn't an absolute but it happens often enough to support the results of many of the studies done on canine nutrition. Regardless of how it ends up presented on here, the facts don't change...only opinions and standards of what some claim works for them. Even when it is in direct contrast to much of the readily available information out there. I get pm's constantly from folks enquiring about feed and nutrition. So, for every one guy claiming that junk has worked for them, there are plenty of others that read what is posted and are making changes, for the betterment of their dogs. The junk feeders may be slightly embarassed at how quickly they are becomming a minority....I am guessing that will also show in their nite hunt results. If you aren't winning or petering out towards the end, make changes! What they are doing isn't working, in spite of what they say. Feed better and expect an overall improvement in the quality of life for your dogs. It really is as simple as that.

My female got pretty lean on EA. Not poor, she looked ripped. I started feeding her diamond naturals chicken and rice for about 2 weeks now and she is starting to get some fat. I like a girl with some junk in the trunk.

"I cooked some bisquits for my dog and layed them on the shelf.
Times got so hard I killed that dog and ate those bisquits myself."

Don't get mad with me HSUS, those lines are from a Depression Era song.

Diamond ought not get mad either. I have fed Diamond (yellow bag) maintenace for 20+ years to pups and all. I have fed Diamond Hi Energy 24-20 (burgundy bag) for the last three months (hunting fairly hard) I don't see much difference. The difference is $22 V $23. I realize this is not as good as EA but so what?
