Just remember you get what you pay for. You should be able to get a Ruger with the 5.5in bull barrel for under $300 the Ruger Hunters are close to $500. You can also get a Browning Buckmark in the $300 rangs. Those would be the 2 I would suggest. You couldn't give me another one of those Berretta Neos.

it has the regular barrell which is too light ,but with the bigger scope and clamp on scope mount on it,it is heavy enough now to be able to hold it steady freehand,,

if i had the money to buy another one ,i'd go with the mark 3 with longest bull barrell i could find , the mark 3 is drilled for reg scope mounts, but i'd still have to have a larger scope tube cause of my eyes

i had a 9 shot h&r revolver i could drive nails with but cant see the coon eyes and sites both at the same time now,so the ruger setup is my favorite now..
handsfree is great..

I use a Stainless Ruger Single Six when Coon Hunting.
I keep a pair of Ear Plugs in my Shirt pocket, If I decide to shoot a Coon Out I alwayse put in the plugs first, because handguns are loud.

Pistols

This is a Ruger Mark II Target pistol with a Crimson Laser sight. This one has 41 coon kills to his credit. I've had him a little over a month. I had the same pistol several years ago that had 380 coon kills before it was stolen. I just recently put the laser sight on this one but really like it. I think I gave $250.00 or possibly more for the Laser. I could have been ripped off. I don't know much about costs on lasers.

I use

A ruger MKII stainless 6 7/8" heavy tapered barrel with the Hogue 1 piece competition grip. I can hit better with an accurate pistol at night than I can a rifle. The season between Feb 1, and The first Saturday night in November I use a single shot, bolt action .22 with cb shorts. Lot quieter LOL

I've been wantin to take my .25 but i suck pretty bad with it lol. I'm afraid we'll get to the tree and won't be able to knock him. Then i'd never hear the end of it lol.

i used to carry a .25 for a little while but the only way i could hit anything with it was put a shell in the chamber and drop the clip into my hand for extra stableness.,quit carrying it after it started affecting the dogs hearing as if they didnt see the coon fall after the first shot, they would never hear it hit the ground on the next shot,,

for a little gun ,it sure sounded like a cannon going off,,

dont waste your time with that thing,,i did before,,had a 10+lb coon up a sapling no more than 15 ft off the ground and streached that thing as far as i could and no farther than 10 ft from slingshot to coon and went thru a whole bag of marble size river gravel,,had to go back to truck and get the rifle,,was embarrasing after bragging how good i was with it,,i hit the coon but it was tougher than i thought,,

LOL!!!! That'll work to. I've got friends that work at a plant that make the marbles for the chaff(used to mess up radar on bombing missions). I might go that route our season closed on the 28th Feb.

which one do would you suggest?

I am looking to get a .22 pistol for this upcoming coon season and was wondering which pistol you guys would suggest between a beretta u22 neos with a 6inch barrel and a smith and wesson 22a with a 7inch barrel? I have heard mixed reviews about both guns

we have a beretta neos that we paid $179 brand new - it has never jammed on us and we have shot some super cheap, crappy ammo through it - it seems to be pretty darn accurate too.

Mad and embarrased if that thing knocks him out! But probably will do better than the BB gun they are talking about on another thread. I pride myself as a 22 rifle shot and mostly I let whoever ( young lady) hunting with me shoot them out. They ask where to shoot and I mean it when I say anywhere in the eye will be allright. But a pistol? I cannot hit anything with a pistle. And so far from 40 years of coon hunting and everyso often a friend brings a pital even a long barreled one, they cannot either. The woods start to sounding like a Chinese holliday. But I make sure I keep some bullets in my pocket for when they shoot out if the coon hasn't done come down and gone in a hole by then. I shure would like to be impressed by a pistol shooter.

A GUY BY THE NAME OF DAVID MORRIS, JUST OUTSIDE OF GEORGETOWN, S.C., IS WHO I CREDIT WITH MY PISTOL TRAINING. HIS EYES ARE PROBABLY NOT WHAT THEY USED TO BE, BUT I THINK YOU WOULD BE IMPRESSED. I CALL HIM "PROFESSOR", BUT HE HAS ALWAYS BACKED UP EVERYTHING HE TOLD ME HE COULD DO. I REMEMBER SOME OF THE FELLOWS AT GEORGETOWN STEEL TALKING TRASH ONE NIGHT. AFTER HIS DEMONSTRATION THE NEXT MORNING, THEY GOT QUIET. HE WAS A SUPERVISOR AND THEY WERE HOURLY EMPLOYEES, SO HE RETURNED THEIR MONEY TO HOLD DOWN FRICTION ON THE JOB. LOOK HIM UP IF YOU'RE EVER IN THE AREA. HELL, LOOK ME UP TOO. (FOR SOME COON HUNTIN'; NOT SHOOTIN' DEMONSTRATIONS.)

Browning Buckmark. Will empty as many clips as fast as you can pull the trigger. Main thing about pistols is keeping them clean, use good ammo, and keep an eye on your clips spread and springs. You'll never worry about jamming if you do.
