To me, breeding makes the breed better, not how many titles a dog can earn. Again, just playing devil's advocate. Cause I do kinda see where you are going.
What I was trying to say was if you had to have 3 first and 100 pts. Then better dogs will be holding titles and I agree titles don't mean a whole lot when it comes to breeding, but to the puplic eye thats what alot go for,And there is alot of hounds out there that wouldn't have the titles they have if the system were harder to achive a title. I myself have had dogs with titles that would not have made it to HBCH had the system been the way we are Proposing.

I'm not putting down any format by saying why not run other formats. with ? at the end its a question. Ive run both and like both.
I still don,t have any champs or grands. Tank is 1 dog that comes to mind that champed in akc,ukc arha with the goods and bads of all the formats. Thats a high standard I think. not on the defense just my thinking. and a questions on the subject.

Personaly I think the public needs to be aware that hbch is just the 1st degree of a champion hunting title in U.K.C and people should not put so much prestige with that title....I do agree with you Kevin that to people who may shopping for pups or stud dogs will see that HBCH and think more of it than what the dog may actualy be....there for us as trialers should be less willing to settle for just the 1st degree and put more focus on making dogs Grands. Most people I know with champion dogs have full intentions of finishing or attempting to finish the dog to grand, but you see alot of HBCH's advertised at stud....despite the number of accomplishments it's has they feel b/c it made HBCH that is worthy soley on that prowess...no offense to anyone who has done that perhaps the dog can and does prove itself in the field then once again it falls on the individual. I don't feel like anything will be gained no matter what you change, people will still find a way to accomplish what they want too for better or for worse. That is why this is just another game. Sometimes a very political game with alot of egos. Just have fun guys whatever u.k.c decides to do with this topic is not going to stop me from doing what i'm doing either way. I'm having fun raising dogs that suit me, and hopefuly somebody else as well. As long as I end up with a dog that one day matt turner actualy admits is a decent dog i'll be happy!!! hahahahaha!!

I see what u guys mean about titles not advancing the breed, I agree, but ppl do base breeding admit it or not off of the rules they hunt in.

Personally I dont see how the 3 first rule cld hurt , it cld only help the level of competition ,if nothing else just by increasing the age of hounds ppl compete with becasue it would take longer. Just be kool if u finished a dog to GRHBCH u could look back and say thats the toughest degree in beagles !

the root of the problem is there are a ton of hunts and a ton of clubs, which is a good thing but at the same time it has created so many opputunities for sub par dogs to finish. I guess id rather have this problem then having no trials to go to close to home though.

Probablly to radical an idea that we are proposing, but it is worth discussing

Champions

I don't know much of AKC field trialing, but don't most beaglers refer to a dog that has won in the field and not reached 3 wins yet Field Winner and once they have receive their points and 3 wins then they receive their FC degree. I realize that it may take longer in AKC as there are not as many local trials, a person has to do some serious traveling.

I know we have discussed this many times but here goes.

In UKC I see a HBCH as a Field Winner even if it came by the EVIL coin toss or a WQE top three. That dog still must attain 5 wins prior to becoming a Grand Hunting Champion and if those 5wins came in WQE I would think that degree to be as prestigious or more prestigious than a FC title in AKC. All classes / catagories of dogs compete against each other in WQE and the Eliminator.

I do see some of the ideas brought up as good, but I still believe for a beagle to have earned GRHBCH or GRPPCH it must have earned at least half those wins somewhere along the journey. Traveling is most definitely more econmical with UKC field trialing do to the number of events availible to attend. At least there is a choice of a field trial to attend,as for AKC you may be taking a long trip every other week-end to attend some field trials to enjoy the sport of beagling.
