My hounds have all grown up running lions and bears, and they hunt and pound down a track on one just as hard as the other. I've had a couple dogs that seem to have a little more lust for the lions than bears, likewise I've had a dog or two that seemed to like the bears more than lions. But they go and stay and catch on each and some have never missed a tree on either, so in my opinion a good trail and tree dog is a good trail and tree dog period.

that's probably pretty much true. I didn't say that cur was good!! She's just lucky! She's an overall good dog, but I don't think she's great at anything.

I can't feed a whole lot of dogs, so I have to run on multiple game.

I could care less as long as they put game in the tree. Whether its coon, bear, bobcat, or lion, if they "trash" on one or the other I dont really care and Im happy. As long as there is game in the tree like I said! Rarely do I have them switch off on something else, maybe they know what Im running them on at the time....haha. I sure know I didnt get mad when I thought I was running a bear and a tom lion was in the tree...I know I wasnt mad when I thought I was running a bear and a nice tom bobcat was in the tree....and I know when a buddy and I went coon hunting and treed a bear that I wasn't unhappy either. Time spent in the woods walking to a tree that has game in it isnt a waste of time at all in my book. Even if I was chasing a bobcat and treed a coon, hell at least I treed something!

multiple game dogs

I run mine on bear, lion, cat and coon. I used to run them on fox too but I quit, the reason I quit fox was because there are way more fox than bear or cat (in the big woods) around here. I liked catching fox but I like catching bear and cat better...and if you're dogs are finding more fox than cats, well thats what you'll be treeing so I quit fox hunting them. I still catch one every now and then and have to go back through the 'fox off limits' talk.
We do not have coons in the woods around here I have to travel to hunt them so they are a non-issue, if we had as many of them as we do fox around here I might reconsider but for here and now as long as they tree/bay or catch what they are running I don't care if its black, speckled, ringtailed or long tailed...its game caught and dogs learning.
Yes, they will strike all four species off the rig.
Some dogs excell more a little on one than another but I only keep dogs that can catch by themsleves and catch what I turn out on...once again, black, speckled, ringtailed or longtailed.
Maybe if I could afford to not work all year and get to hunt all the time I'd have single use packs but it wouldn't get me far in the here and now.
I also don't guide, I could see that if I did I would obviously need to check tracks instead of just turning loose on a strike like I do now.
