In another week or two you'll be on here telling people the proper way use a Garmin. I have noticed it doesn't take you long to get with the program.

Yep, about a year this time but you know what? There is a WHOLE WORLD of differant type of dogs and dog training out there and over all I have been at it about 39 years. Counting obiedence, man tracking/trailing,live air scent, cadaver both land and water, some narcotics and tough cadaver recovery at seminars in several states.
So your right. I have only been in coon hunting for 2 1/2 years all together. Not counting my child hood but I would venture to say I have probubly trained more dogs for one thing or the other than you have ever handled.
I started out in the search and rescue giveing free seminars here at home. It cost me about $1000.00 a year to try to help people with there dogs.
Now I try to help people on here sory you don't like it but I am not going to stop. It is tough to help anyone if you can't see first hand what the dog is doing and can't enteract with the dog first hand and yes I do use a lot of e-collar becouse it is the easiest and fastest way to give a dog a negitive when it does wrong and a verbil reward when to gives you a positive responce. Dog training is about contrast between good and bad behavior.

Refering to you as the one qualified Im guessing. I would put a 100 bill up and say that my dog would be more behaved and listened better in the woods than yours, and I have no idea who you are or what kind of dogs you have. I base that on the fact that me and my TAZER training is proven every night by the dog I hunt. I guess the old beating them till they cant do anything wrong method works the best for you dont it.

I think you have done way too little reading of this board in your short lifetime here. Under the name you are using now at least.

You can't attempt to fix the problem if you don't know why he's doing it .

have you tried to tied him to the tree the coon is in and then walking off and giving him some room ?

have you tried knocking the coon out , letting him wool it and then hanging it back up ?

Have you been able to sneak in real close and see his reaction to you when he realizes he's been "caught" treeing ?

Oh yea I have done just enough reading to figure you out Bluedog. You are one of them who has all of the right answers and none of the wrong ones. Who cares how long I have been here. Are you the resident old timer or something? As far as my user name goes, this is the only one i have ever had. Not sure what you are getting at with that. If you are suggesting that I am some sort of troll then I hate to tell ya from what I have read from your posts you have the trolling trademarks. Any ways you do your training and I will do mine and all will be good.

My first question would be, are you giving this dog a lot of coon? I think this problem is the reverse of the "dog comes off the tree to meet me problem". If the dog is treeing well; he does not need every coon; in fact, for a "problem dog" it should be a "very special event". I was talking to a Northern hunter last week; he is hunting a year old female and has given her 35 coon. He said she is getting "loose" on the tree; I suggested tieing her at the tree and making the few coon she got "special events". My thinking is the dog knows when you get to the tree, the coon comes out and he is recast. He s looking for that coon or next coon race. In fact, I would make short casts where coons are plentiful and give the dog as much repetiton as possible, until he straightens out. In fact, I would probably put him back in the truck and move after every drop, even if it's just a quarter mile to the other side of the woods. Give him enough repetition until he stops associating your arrival at the tree with a coon hitting the ground or being recast from the tree. JMO Tom

I would like to point out that I am not a dog beater...never have been... and I think the e-collar is the best training tool there is for training all kinds of dogs for whatever purpose... if done properly. I'm far from an expert and have never implied that I am but I do know enough from experience to know the difference. I will recognize it when I read it. I have used e-collars for 15 years or more to TRAIN. I do not MAKE dogs tree with it or PUNISH them. I have a Classic 70 that is a number of years old now with the tone feature. I can do what I want to do with it. I depend on a dogs natural abilitity. I just guide them along the way with the use of an e-collar. I don't regard it as a cure-all.

With this you show mw you know NOTHING about TRAINING with a E-COLLAR so I see why you don't understand why people that do ACTUALLY TRAIN with one over use it. If you would go to a seminar and see how to use one to train you would use it a lot more. Till then I won't take any more offense till you have learned a little about one. You can use one all your life and never know how to train with it. I would recomend Fred Hansen. I don't agree with all his methods but he is as good of e-collar man as I have ever seen. You can do a search on google for him. He has a big training school in Az. Cal. don't remember for sure. I went to a class of his in Texas at a seminar I was teaching a cadaver recovery class at.

If you can't train a coonhound , you probably aren't good at training the other types of dogs you pretend to have trained ....
