I believe mucket had to be talking about Stylish Hickory Nut Harry who was a grandson of Logan's Wild Clover a great grandson of Hardwood Bozo thus making him a great, great grandson of the original Hickory Nut Harry. I like a calico ear. I like them if they don't have it but staring two puppies down I'd pick the calico eared one. I've had two that had it. One was off Riverbend Style and I'm pretty sure that come down from Stylish Queen through Chirpee and then Whitey and the other was off Hardwood Henry out of Hardwood Patch who was off Stylish Queen. The dam off the style pup was a grandpup off Whitey and the dam of the Henry pup was off Thunder's Wild Clyde and was Nite Heat on bottom. Plenty of Bozo there too but I really believe the blue eye and the calico ear will show up in litters with Stylish Queen in them heavy, regardless if Bozo is in there or not.

I could be wrong, it has happened before.

Calico Ears

Go back to the Hershberger hounds. That's as far back as I can go, but obviously it goes farther back than them.

Hardtime Speck really put out a lot of calico eared dogs. When I saw pics of Stylish Clover my first thought was who slipped the Speck blood in there.

Speck was doubled up on Stan's Sailor Boy (Hershberger bred). Yadkin River came from the same blood as Speck.
Hickory Nut Harry (sire of Hardwood Bozo) was also Hershberger bred.

Pretty much all of the blood mentioned for calico ears go back to Hershberger. And, they had to get it from somewhere.

house tom tom blood had it..

besides "back in the day" before 1970 most dogs got their papers from the shoebox and was papered as to what they looked like walker or bluetick or redtick(english)........

dna has hurt the sales of shoebox papers ,
but some people are still trying to make money off them,
putting good bred papers on coondogs with common papers ,
it has messed up a few breeding programs lately and i feel sorry for the paper swappers as soon as they get caught..

it could have come from a dalmation too,i remember a friend having a female dalmation back in 1975 that he hunted with his male walker,he said he was going to cross them ,dont remember if he did or not..

i was always told that this goes back to the bird dog or the weirmaraner that was breed into the gundog during the 14th century or what we might call the coonhound ! predomintaly found in the walker breed usually called a calico ear or a moused color ear! I ALSO HEARD IT SAID THAT IS WHY SOME WALKERS ARE VERY TICKED BECAUSE OF THE BIRD DOG IN THEM ! DONT KNOW BUT IT MAKES SENCE TO ME ! GOOGLE THE WERMARAINER AND CHECK HIS HISTORY !HES DEFINTLY GRAY AND MOUSED COLOR AND OFTEN HAS A BLUE EYE! HARD KNOCKIN STYLISH HAYES THREW THIS BLUE EYE AND CALICO EARS SOMETIMES!

I was told by an old timer it came from a dog called Melody Bill. I would have to look at some old papers to see what line he would be in.

Its simple guys it comes from all of the lines. It is a color variation when you have a white background. No big mystery they all have it and they always have.
