HERE WHERE WE HUNT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THAT MENTALITY OR YOU WILL BE EMPTY HANDED EVERYYEAR. THE AVERAGE AGE OF A DEER HERE IS 18 MONTHS. IT HAS HAPPENED TO US ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. WE HAVE 150 ACRES AND WE TRY AND LET YOUNG DEER WALK, SOMETIMES THEY MAKE IT BUT MOST OF THE TIME THEY CROSS THE LINE AND BECOME HAMBURGER. MOST PEOPLE HERE WILL NOT BUY INTO THE MANAGEMENT PLAN, IT IS A SHAME. I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A BUCK LIKE THAT EVERY YEAR. BUT HERE WE GET SPIKES, 3 PTS ETC.

WE NEED MD DNR TO HAVE A POINT RESTRICTION LIKE PA.

Point restrictions

on deer has worked here in Pa. The 4 to a side here in sw Pa. is tough to count sometimes but they are getting bigger... The thing that they did here that I don't like is they sanctioned too big a Doe kill for several years, now in some sections of Pa. you hardly see any deer... So be careful not to take too many Does and let the Antler Restrictions kick in and the quality of the deer should go up.....

I have put a good amount of effort and time into bowhunting the last 2 years and quite frankly it has been awful. I have seen a grand total of 3 or 4 small bucks and 1 decent one before the season this year. With that kind of success, if that deer right there gave me the shot I wanted I wouldn't think twice. I am sick of sitting out there.

In the case the only person you are going to hurt or benefit is you. If you think the deer has potential to get bigger, let him go, if you think thats it and getting rid of him is good for what you want take him out of the gene pool.

I couldn't disagree more with the PA antler restriction in PA working in PA. It's to the point where it's hard to get and keep youngsters into hunting because along with the antler restriction they are slaughtering the doe's. It's tough for a young kid to sit all day and not see anything. Before the restriction was put in place the serious hunters still killed quality bucks and the casual hunters killed whatever they wanted. Most people are happy just killing a buck no matter if it's an 8 point or a spike.

i agree with alot that is being said about pa restrictions, i think the reason you are seeing so many bigger bucks in pa taken is because they force us into waiting for them. archery sucks here too briar, and if i saw that sucker, he'd be going down. for sure, and if i see the tiny racks, they bite it too. i culled every small rack around here and now we are starting to grow them, unfortunately, whom ever spots one, the word spreads and then i have to go walking out back with the shot gun and start kickin people out. the doe population has taken a huge hit, if i have to, to fill the freezer, i will shoot one, other than that no.
kelley

that buck in the pic would be mine, and i would grin ear to ear

B.B.
I look at it like this.......If i'd spend te $$$ to hang a shoulder mount of it on the wall, I'd drop the hammer on it.....
or
If I thought it was an older deer with poor genetics, i'd take it out of the gene pool in a heartbeat....

Otherwise.......I'd let him walk...........but that's just me.....

Sounds like you have a really nice piece of property to hunt on....good luck to you !!!!..
