Apparently you already have "the worlds greatest mix breed pup trainer" and a pup that is going to "kick all our butts" so really, why would you need another dog when you go twice a week? Not trying to be mean to you, but just being up front. Unless you are indpendently wealthy, or retired, or hunt 6 hours a night, the two you got now should be plenty.

Have as many dogs as you want, feed as many as you want, hunt as little as you want, I don't care. I am trying to get your to see that maybe another dog isn't a good idea. BELIEVE ME this is not the only 18 month old dog that just needs a "little work" to be a great dog. Check out the classifieds they are sold everyday. Nobody gets rid of a young dog doing a good job for a "good price". Save your money on the dog and get some tools like a light, a tracker, a shocker ect.....For crying out loud, where you live you have like a month left of hunting before you are burried in snow, why get another dog now??

I have no idea why I attempt to help people with all the anwers. It just makes me dumber than them.

i take your advice , but sometimes a piece of 80 grit sandpaper would be a little bit more pleasant rubbed on the side of my face for an hour. by the way, bought a good light, dont need a tracker yet. never said i had ANY ANSWERS. i dont think anyone does for all of the questions that are being asked. you get alot of opinions and i have to weigh them all. just tellin everyone what i am up to. glad you read the chronicles bye the way, noone can save me from the trials and tribulations of coonhunting. i was told from a WISE man, that is the fun of it. and i cannot lose the fun in which i am having, going out about 3 times a week. if the HUSBAND, would not complain too much, i would be out about 6 .

Just keep Having Fun Kelly

Don't the the sour pusses and blow hards and know it all's bug ya. Sounds like you are doin just fine and are happy with what you got and how things are progressing. Everyone is different and every dog is different and you have to take what EVERYONE says with a grain of salt and make the choices and decisions that best suit you and your dogs and ONLY you will know what that is. Hubby and I decided a long time ago that we are in this for the enjoyment we get out of runnin the dogs...we go to hunts and shows because we want to and they can be fun but it's not the primary reason we got the dogs. We got 3 hounds right now and hunt them when schedules and gas money allows which can vary from week to week...sometimes alone sometimes with other peoples dogs...but as long as it's fun who care what anyone else says!

i am not willing to give up on the dogs , nor the people associated with this sport. the stories of the "trials and tribulations" are what brings us together.

I had a pup once out of HH Harry that treed a coon at 5 months and 18 days. He was a natural. Never reached his full potential though bc he got hit by a car when he was 1.5 yrs old. There may be some that have treed younger than that but that's the youngest I've ever seen.

Have a Bluetick female that treed consistently at 6 months but at eight months started back sliding some but now at 9 months she is starting to do it right again. She gets hunted about three nights a week.

I am absolutely jealous. It is a great thing to be involved in something where you have never actually experienced success so you have no idea what it feels like. No expectations at all. To be happy with a dog just because it wags its tail is something I can only dream about. I'll admit it would be a lot more fun. Fun to me is performance of a dog. Walking around in the dark looking at the stars with a dog that frustrates me just isn't fun. Working a young dog is a mission and a commitment to bring a dog to its best as fast as I can so I know what I have and can move to the next. I don't buy a dog from a breeder who has worked a long time to produce this pup to waste his efforts not giving the dog 100% of a chance to excell and feed it milkbones and ride in the car with me.

To be honest I would say other than when we are hunting I don't even enjoy being a dog owner. They have 100 things I can't stand and 1 I like. I am certainly jealous of those who form that man/animal bond just because the dog successfully turns o2 to CO2. As the saying goes "ignorence is bliss".

this is a quote from an earlier post from john wick. "uncle john"
"Henry Ford said that a person becomes old when they think they know it all and stop trying to learn. It doesn’t matter if they’re twenty or eighty. The tree dog sport as a whole, and most of us as individuals, still have much more to learn. There’s a great deal we can each do to improve our sport and encourage all those folks around us who are struggling to succeed."

thank you uncle john

here is another quote by uncle john

"This sport is terrible the way some people criticize anybody who’s trying to do something. Surrounding me are quotes that help me understand people. They console me in times of uncertainty. One says, “REMEMBER, if you’re not being criticized, you may not be doing much.” Another says, “Everything worth doing starts with being scared.” Both quotes are true."

Here we go again. Dogs are not people ladies. So funny, even behind screen names you can tell when you are talking to a women on here. As was also stated by John Wick AS SOON as you see a flaw in the dog that will keep it from being a decent hound, do yourself, the dog and the breed a favor and dispose of the dog. It is all spelled out in that book as clear as day, but you can choose to keep skipping over the parts you don't like. What you don't realize is that people in the world even if they are not good at a certain thing have other talents and gifts that they can use to make a contribution to this world. Coon dogs really have one purpose, to tree coon, if they can't, their use is gone to those that are serious about their dogs. It would be like if in a sick world you were raising children and your only purpose was to produce NBA players. If one reaches full height and he is 5'2" It really isn't in your best interest to keep on training.

This isn't about anyone giving up on any dog. What this started off was me TRYING to give your pup the best chance to excell as possible and that means NOT getting another dog when you don't spend enough time hunting the ones you have. Thats all and thats it.

1) uh duh....never thought, said, or implied that dogs were people....

2) I think it's quite ovbious from my screen name that I am female...again uh duh...

3) Coonhound CAN and DO serve purposes OTHER than treeing coons...they are used as Bobcat dogs, Bear dogs, Deer dogs, Pig dogs, Search and Rescue Dogs, Disabled Assist Service dogs, Guard Dogs, Family Pets...do I really need to continue???

Are you really so narrow minded and an unhappy with your world as you seem?

There are special purpose dogs for all the tasks you listed. Why pick not pick a dog that has been bred to excell in that area? If you want a disabled assistant service dog are you really telling me that some cull coondog is what you want leading your disabled grandma around? Come on lady, lets make arguments at least realistic.

U can say duh all your want, and my narromindedness is a result of the ability to focus on what I want. I am not unhappy in the world at all but I know what I want in a dog and know it isn't in every pup that I have raised. You can think I am all you described all you want, but everyone on this board who has done this sport with any degree of seriousness is looking at everything your girls post and saying "duh".
