I myself will hunt with a few other people and other dogs, but its maybe once or twice a month at best. At those times I enjoy it, but you make dogs hunting them and getting them to learn what they are doing by themselves. IMO hunting young dogs with a finished dog simply sugarcoats what the young dog is doing. It gets REAL easy to give your pup slack and think it is doing more than it is when an experienced dog is treeing coon, you are having a good time, and the pup is just out there with you. Now if you are out there and the pup is doing a nice job running and treeing with the old dog, its ready to be hunted alone and often with just you.
There is coonhunting and there is pup training. When they start to blend together your young dog is well on its way and then it is time to hunt with other dogs and other people. To me its a very different objective and a very different process. With more than one dog out there, dogs seem to go further, faster, and its way tougher to know what is going on and be able to keep up so you can either discourage or encourage your young dog when it makes certain moves.
