Country coon dog, competition coon dog what the heck does it matter!!! Most people on here can't agree what a coon dog is let alone agree on some useless secondary classification.

Let's just forget about all the adjectives that don't matter and just concentrate on the two words coon dog.

I agree, Larry, if you have a Dog that trees Coons then he should fit any bill but some folks want to take an unfair advantage and still call it coon dogs and get fighting mad if you point out hes not what he or she appears to be. im from way down in the the Gullys and briars of South alabama, and North Fla, so you know im not used to seeing the caliber of hounds most folks brag about having! where im from if you have a hound that strikes honist, and trails open to the tree and you find a coon 95% of the time over the year total then id say you have a pretty fair dog, of course if you have one that you find the larger percent of your coons in the summer then you had better hold on to that one for sure

In my opinion every world champion is just a good old country coon dog. They just prooofed to the country and the people afraid to enter hunts that they are a coon dog.
