It builds drive.........Look I don't care if you do any of this. I was just trying to help. Yes if you leave anything running loose, put it in a box, haul it a few miles and turn it loose don't be surprised if it doesn't take off in a dead run. The more confinement the more they are going to be happy to have there freedom. Once it gets in the physical and mental shape to hunt and want to hunt. Chances are it will hunt. If not you can just save all the trouble and wait for it to get older and more mature in both ways naturaly. It will probubley go sooner or later either way.......I just do little things to speed it up.

Sorry didn't mean nothing by it, I appreciate all the help you have gave me and am going to try it all. I thank you so keep helpin. So what im goin to have t do is hunt her once a week and if she comes in load he up and not let her out rest of night.

No problem and yea that is what I would do. You can't force them to go. It has to be fun for them. If it is more fun than the house or box it will go with the other dogs to play.

Havent hunted annie for about a week took her last nite first drop went about 300 yards and came back so i loaded her up drove around got the dog left her in box and she raised all sorts of heck then made another drop turned her loose she went about 200 yards come back loaded her up went got do and she did same thing so i dont know

When she comes back don't let her go the next drop. Make her ride in the box the rest of the night. She will get tired of it. It is just a matter of who can stand it longest you or her. Be sure and confine her at home for a few hours before you go.

What do you mean by confine her before i hunt her thanks?

Also i ended up taking her again tonight and she went about 300 yards dogs struck and she stayed with them rite at 10 minutes and came back but dog barked and she took off to them and they got treed, i drove closer and she was there at the tree. Then made another drop and she didnt do squat so loaded her up and thats were she stayed. Not going t hunt her no more this week till weekend.

Just confine her to a small pen or short chain away from other dogs. So she wants to go when she gets out.

Jarred, I'm just an old country coon hunter, don't know much about dogs, but I can give you some things to consider. First, do you know anything about the genetics of the dog. Is there a close hunting dog up close in her pedigree, mother, father, grand parents? If so might be a victim of her genetics; she is what she will always be. I had a GrNT dog about twenty-five years ago that treed hundreds of coon, but would never hunt over a hundred feet by himself; if he was with another dog would hunt just as wide and didn't mind being split. He was out of an outstanding dog, that was a little bit the same way. The other consideration might be her age, at nine or ten months it's hard to tell a whole lot about how they will look in a year. If her head is together, I would haul her two or three nights a week, and see what happens. Some years back I was hunting a pair of Lipper pups from an outstanding female, at a year old the male was an outstanding young dog, could do it all in style. The female, I hauled her all through season, and every night I considered culling her. She would go about fifty feet on every turnout, and would not go to the dogs. When the other dogs treed, she would follow me to the tree and when I put the coon out, and the other dogs made sure it was dead, she would fight them off of it.
To make a long story short, I hauled her all season, and never saw her do anything. Along in the Spring, I had made a couple drops, and this time I turned out and got my coffee jug out and poured a cup. I looked around for that female, and she was gone. About that time I heard a loud dog open on the creek, the others opened with her, and she treed ahead of them, and just kept doing kit. She placed in the World Hunt as a three year old. Sometimes, you just have to wait for the "marble to fall into place". Good Luck, Tom.

Yeh her father hunts deep and so does her mother and i have hunted with 6 of her litter mates some from a first cross and lets just say they have no reverse. I took her last night she took off and stayed gone 20 mins come back in and i loaded her up and didnt let her out rest of the night. So took her again tonight and she went whole way and never hung around. But going to lay her up rest of the week.

ive trained one or two hounds in my day lol. take this for what its worth. take her, hunt the hide off of her by herself. dump her in places u can drive up to the woods let her go and get back in the truck sit back and read a good book an bring whatever drink preferance u like she will get bored and start working for ya had to do the same thing several times.

Well i hunted her the other night she looked great hunted great struck a track beat the old dog to tree and tree and had coon in den tree. Made another drop hunted great and got deep with other dog struck with her but didnt tree.

But the next couple nights would go mabey 70 yards and come back, wouldnt even hunt so now im going to lay her up for a little while.

That just tells me you are hunting her to much for her age. Laying her up probubly won't do any good for a lasting period of time. She is just nine months old. If you lay her up and come back and hunt her several nights in a row she will just fall off again. Personaly I would just hunt her less drops and nights. I would allways leave the woods with her wanting more till her body and mind wanted so much she could last all night.
Putting her up takes away the muscel and lungs she is building. It is a ballance to give her a little more as she is ready but never as much as she wants till she has an adult mind and body. JMO

Just make say 2 drops a week with her. One per night 2 nights a week. When she goes in there and trees, that should be the end of the night for her. Spend about 5-10 minutes at the tree praising her then put her up. THATS IT FOR THE NIGHT! She is very young and you should always leave on a good note. If she comes back just put her up and leave her be..THATS IT FOR THE NIGHT.. and she will get the idea not to come back like that. Seems like YOU just cant stand but to push her. IMO letting her go on a drop when she does good, then turning her out again and her not doing well just puts that last "bad" turnout on her brain. Control yourself and dont push her and it will come. I know its hard to not push a dog thats starting to do it but you got too. Gotta conquer yourself before you can conquer a dog. Not trying to be rude but it seems the dog is doing fine for 9 months and the only one that needs work is you. I know its hard to not push them. I have 2 sittin in the yard that I cannot wait to start, but you cannot push them.

i hope you will keep us up to date on how your dog works out. i've got one that's doing pretty much the same thing. my plott is now 1 yr old. she's been in the woods 60 times, or more. she'll go good with other dogs but stays close when alone.

I will, if mine would hunt she would be super nice but she aint been out but 14 times or less and like i said some nites she will go everystep and even hunt 900 yards to half a mile shes got the drive just need to get it out of her.

Drive for energy, want to find a coon and the confidence to go into the woods at night by itself , and the confidence to know it can find a coon.
I think the main thing that keeps a pup from going out on it's own is fear of what is in the dark. Same reason a kid doesn't. Lots of things that can kill them out there at that age and they know that.

Well 14 times or less is nothing. Take your time and do what suggested. Just if she dont go put her up. Dont let her hang around you and get the idea shes there to keep your company..lol. She will go in time. Follow what advice you got and just dont push her..it will click one day if shes got it. Good luck.

Well here is a little update i hunted Annie saturday night 2sttome she been out for a week or so and she got about 300 yards struck at treed a coon by herself. then took her home. then took her again tonight and she hunted good about 650-750 yards and eventually came back so loaded her up and drove to other dog. Left her i box and went home.

Sounds like you are going down the right track now. Keep up the good work. On a night like that when she does real good the first time you might dump her one more but if she doesn't go as well just go back to one dump again. As she gets older and tougher she will go more and more. Just keep her wanting more than what she gets.

Here is a little up date on Annie. I have been hunting her a few nights a week because of work. But she has been looking okay like a she is going say 500-800 yards or more and she will all of a sudden turn around and come back then she will go back again. So really dont know how i can keep her to keep going without coming back in cause i really dont want to see her till treed
