It took those boys an hour and a half of chasin and bogging, beatn and frammin but they finally got him 100 feet before he got to the woods. Now they were some kinda proud of themselves even though they were give out.

About then old Joe shows up in the truck with three coons in the back. Joe had covered 5 miles jack lighting to get them. When Joe got home he told his mama that he had got three treed in the time it took for the others to get one. His mama was proud and told the newspaper and Joe got Famous.

I wonder if dogs hold an opinion of independent dogs like those boys still hold of Joe?

Il bet the next time them fellas went hunting they all used there trucks. After all they were out there to get coon LOL.

I can chucle with folks I agree with. I wouldn't feed him neither, even if I did get to braggin 'bout his independents. But there are some boys around here, one's daddy owns the Ford Dealership and de odun own's de Chevys. Yes , I'm a shark, just like them traineees. Recon I wouldn't sell either a $30.000 dog to watch them lead out the sho room floor with? What I bred and trained? "You got the money, honey, I got the time".

NOT SAYIN YOUR DOG IS DOIN THIS

but if you have a dog that is split treein most the times.. 1 of 2 things have happend/has happend

1.. when he was a pup he got bit by a mean dog and had a strong enough desire to tree and just started treein on the tree beside the other dog out of fear

2.. your dog is vicioius and when the other dogs get on the tree he pushes them off the tree and they start treein on the other tree


THATS WHY IN ADDS THEY SAY "WILL HOLD PRESSURE" they WONT be pushed off a tree... thats why most people try to have a weak tree dog teach pups, that way there not intemidated..

Do any of you recon it would be possible for a single hunter to be able to train an indepndant dog where he has to , or even does the old fashioned way, shoots out the coon to the dog ? Or has coonn huntin done turn't into a "bucket dog" mentallity?

Hounds, just like most animals, generally do the same thing over and over, until something changes that behavior. If a dog is hunted with another dog all the time they learn from eachother(pup trainers, broke dogs) Left to figure out on their own, they may learn it, but not right. There are alot fewer "naturals" in the world then what we hear. You always see adds about "natural easy starting pups". Sure, they may start easy but a true natural ? A true natural needs little if any correction. Just like naturally independent dog needs little or no help staying by itself. Alot of dogs that are said to be this way are not. Beaten for honoring another dog, eat off of way to many trees(IMO, because the idiot that trained it, hunted it with whatever and didn't think it would matter), or was hunted alone and doesn't know what to do with other dogs. If you like hunting one dog at a time, fine. I like to hear several dogs work a track, tree, and I sit back and listen to the music. From the way it sounds, you got yourself two nice dogs that tree coons and if you like hunting them together or seperate it is your choice. Good luck with them.

you keep believin that friend.. i've trained a heap of dogs.. thats how i make my money for huntin.. you take a dog with a strong tree desire and run him with a half way kind of vicious dog that'll snap at him.. and he'll start treein beside that dog over and over and over... and when hes with friendly dogs he'll tree on the same tree.. but soon as one blows up at him hell leave that tree and go to another tree.. done seen it, and if you look in the adds it tells you friend... thats why they say "hell hold all the pressure and back UP and tree" but hey... beleve what ya want...

bottum line is if your just pleasure hunting an you know they will tree coon by there self but like huntin them together who cares if they tree togther alot .. longs they sadisfy you thats the only true answer....... i like pleasure hunting so it nice to have all the dogs at one tree instead of when you cut lets says 3 hounds loose they all run different directions.... not fun or a pleasure no matter if they tree 3 coon seperate... but chances are very low around here to split tree very offin.................an if everone says they are (me to) it only matters what you think cause your the one that fill that feed bowl everday ...

Like me right now. I have one that was pretty tough at 5 months old. I have another that is 6 months and isn't ready to take a bite of any kind yet. She will be as good as the other in the end but is slower to mature. So I have to wait longer on her than I did him..............
