The amount of protien/fat is directly related to one another. A drop in protien also corresponds with a drop in fat. Robbing fat from your dog robs energy. So when one adheres to the wives tail of reducing protein to keep them from running hot, you are in effect taking his fat away also which will provide less fuel for energy. I don't understand what is so hard with grasping this? I also feed the Extreme Athlete and have no problems with protien/fat levels. I always find it funny that the ones promoting junk feed are almost always the ones trying to keep their dogs from running hot and looking for something else to feed. lol And for those that claim their dogs don't run hot.......please. Save that for your buddies. Dogs run hot, period. Dogs can run harder, faster, and longer than any of us. But the one thing they can't do better than us is deal with heat or running hot. Many, many things will effect the rate to which a dog heats up, feed, humidity, water consumption, conditioning, etc. etc. You as an owner need to look at the entire picture and see what needs addressed. Feeding cheap feed will cause the dog to drink much much more water, regardless of what the protien/fat ratio is because digestion requires it. If your dog isn't in shape, he will run hot quicker and stay hot longer. If he isn't at the level required to achieve a positive "fat adaption" state, he will run hot. You can feed cheap feed and hunt his wheels off and you will see an improvement, not because of the feed, but because you are conditioning him. Give him a cleaner feed and you will achieve an even higher level of performance. It isn't rocket science fellas.
