Strangest animal I've ever treed...

a chipmunk. I was walking my little redtick/cur the other day, and had him in the woods since he was starting to work the banks, and he hit a track and sniffed a little, barked once and ran to a tree and then growled and finally barked once up it, and i saw a chipmunk on the side of it.

Took old Hot Shot out ice fishing with me one day at a little farm pond and he was nosing around the rip rap on the dam and opened up, trailed to the other end, and treed....a cute little white weasel. Another that I'm not so proud of is a really nice bighorn ram. No he didn't climb a tree but he was sure backed into the ledge good and tight. He was a dandy, probably would've scored in the low 190's. I swear that ram was snickering as I went to training dogs!

Back when I started in dogs I use to run a coon now and then, and one night we got to the tree and shined a porky up high in a cottonwood. I couldn't believe that those dogs had treed a porky so I kept looking and finally a coon peeked down at us from the fork in the tree just above it's thick truck..............

I also was coon hunting another time and the dogs blew off the river bottom and over the mountain, then those four hounds feel on the wood. I was alone and walked into the tree with a coon light and shined a huge black boar, black bear just over those four dogs. Then movement caught my eyes and above it in the same tree was a sow black bear. It was toward the end of June and the bear rut had started, guess I must have stumbled upon a couple mating bears.........

The best race I ever had was almost two miles. They ran more or less parallel to a powerline and crossed back and forth several times. We could walk right along and keep up pretty easy. It finally treed on a riverbank on our side. That coon didn't weigh but between five and ten pounds. I tote them out by the hind ankles. My buddy noticed that the tail hung 4 rings past the tip of his nose and his front legs were dragging the ground. Longest tail and legged rascal I ever saw.

Was hog hunting in a hunting ranch in Texas at night. The dogs bayed after a short race. We headed in but it broke bay before we arrived but bayed again. Was braking large brush but bayed again, headed toward the dogs and it broke bay again. We looked up and seen eyes coming at us but they were chest high and far apart. It was a wilda beast from Africa. Asked the manager what people payed to shot him 5000.00 Sure am glad he had both ears still!!!!!!!!

Treed a red fox, and one time in a very small tree, the dog was treeing away and all we could see was a field mouse running up and down on the branches. The tree was only 8 feet tall. ha.

out with two buddies during shootin season and we always give coon extra konk on head to make sure they are dead before we put them in game bag. had young pups with us and let them maul a little, one dog weighed about 75 pounds big dog and my buddie konks coon in head after we shot it out and puts in gamebag. about 10 minutes later i feel this game bag moving down by my waist. i asked my buddy to check it and see if its alive just as he did the big dog jumps through the air and knocked us all down coon me and buddy all rolling on ground trying to get coon game bag and dog off of me every time i tryed to stand up dog would grab game bag and jerk me down thought i was ate up. we laugh so hard about that night now but at time it wasn't so funny,so i guess u could say i was bayed and caught lol

A few years ago a fella here in South Carolina treed a Kudamundia, knocked it out and got it identified.

Looks like a coon with a long tail and legs; native of Central America.

That might have been it then. Mine was back around 1974.

Trouble

First week of October, cut the dogs and they came up treed 100 yards away. We walked to tree and watched the dogs run up to the tree, bark a few times then back off the tree. Walking up closer we could see a coon run down the tree and the dogs would run in and then the coon would go back up the tree. This went on several times. didn't take long to figure it out. BEES. The coon must have climbed in the hole in the tree trunk and pissed off the bees. Everyone got stung that night!

Worst part was we had a pup with us so we felt like we should take the coon. Aiming, being stung, cursing and laughing, just another fun night coon hunting
