it was my first setwd too i loved it. Matthew and I left on thursday from holly ridge, nc to salisbury, nc to hunt in southeastern treeing walker days. We arrived at around 430 in the afternoon. Once arriving we met up with chris brown from jacksonville, nc to check out the fairgrounds. Right many people and vendors were already there. We decide to get settled in to a hotel. Well it so happens that all the hotels in town were booked. WWe ended up staying at some lil motel owned by arabians or something. It was an alright motel for to hicks going coonhunting. We hung it up for the night got some rest and proceeded to the fairgrounds that next mornin. We arrived and started wonderin around. Seen a bunch of stud dogs. Tim osborne had to be one of the nicest guys and bean is much better lookin in person. Steve Person was there with the ever famous Judge Dredd. Probably one of the most respected coonhunters in my book. Well on came the hunt friday night. Matthew didnt hunt his dog and we didnt have a place to keep him so we left him locked in the bathroom of the hotel. lol i know hickish lol. Well i got casted out and was hunting roughly 30 mions from the club. It turned out to be a bad night. The moon was up and ol' itch just didnt seem like he wanted to hunt. I was discouraged and mad cause i know what he can do. So saturday we walked around the fairgrounds. Got some boots and hats and coats. You know the normal stuff. I really didnt feel like hunting and was thinking about withdrawing, seeing how itch acted the first night. Well i casted out with a group of guys and hunted roughly 1 1/2 from the club. The first drop i received 1st strike and 2nd tree. It was a den. The second tree was slick and i took 2nd strike and 1st tree. Now ive heard it said that if u go down early at a big hunt u might as well withdraw. Well you might want to stick around for this one. Going away from the tree i fell back a little and gave itch a lil attitude ajustment. The next drop the dogs went deep. I could here itch treed but couldnt tell where because we were in the mountains. I told the judge i wanted to climb to the top to get a better idea of where he was. On the way up they called time out, because the dogs were getting to far out of hearing they said. Itch had a coon. Next drop i received 2nd strike and first tree, coon seen. Next drop dogs went out of hearing called time out found itch under a coon. Next drop 1st stike first tree, coon seen. Next drop dogs went to the top of the mountain then over it, dogs found under a coon during timeout. So with 13 mins left i had 225+. I was asked do u wanna take the plus and go back or try and hit 1 or 2 hot feeders to boost ur score. I decided to hunt knowing it would take a good score to place. We turned out and i had 1st and 1st on a coon. 7 mins it took to run, tree, see the coon and call time out. So i had 6 mins left. I once again chose to turn loose. They hit a track with itch receiving 1st strike. They ran it pretty hot and was locating with 20 seconds left i treed him with 10 seconds left in the hunt, coon seen. 675+ 5th place southeastern treeing walker days. So dont listen when someone says u cant come back fom minus, cause u can. awesome hunt

I like

going up,about two hours every year to SETWD,to speak to and see people that we hardly see but there. We have entered a dog for the past three years and won our cast twice but didnt place, this year we drawed a nice fellow which took us to Bellmont, and because of the weather NC has had we couldnt get our vehicle up the road so our haNDLER road on the back of another fellas truck and we sat at the gate and waited.ONE coon was scored that nite and think it was on the feeder tree, but I'm glad a score went back, our dog got some minus on one of the drops for coming in late to the coon seen, but thats the way it goes, the boys had fun and thats what counts. To some its about money and thats the wrong reason to be in it but it happens.Alot of people that put on this hunt and others do it at their exspence so houndsmen like us can come and enjoy and possiably place a hound in the hunt.Paid guides are gona happen at large hunts, and if ya can draw out on that cast and win, well thats icing on the cake.Always thank your guide and compediters no matter what, you never know whos spectating. And thank you all envolved for putting on a good event at SETWD.

iam not saying this happens or did happen on all the casts at setwd , but i ran across a post on this board about a man thinking a man for guiding him on fri/sat night and he was suppose to be the judge and guide , like say there's some shady thing's that go on but i enjoy their hunt and will continue hunting in it . all in all most of the people that hunt in it are honest people that i've found .

If you have a COONDOG period they shouldn't need feeders,I don't care if it's Reg,Nitech or GrNitech if its woods with coons in them,a real dog should be able to "get wooded"with da meat.Feeder buckets are a good TRAINING tool that is about to take over comp hunting because they help to get that big score and that's what your gonna need to win 9 outta 10 times.Am I against feeders?NO(have 1 spot that I have a 5gal feeder)its there for a quick drop or a warm up,but I prefer "wild coons or non bucket coons"to me they tend to help separate the playing field on a cast.
