You got to plus it both ways.

The dog treed a COON. Its not up to me or anybody else to determine how said coon got in the tree, the dog treed on a tree WITH A COON IN IT. The rules do NOT say the coon has to be living and breathing to be scored.

Show me different in the rules.

Yea it is too fun to make jokes on stuff like this but I would agree you would have to plus both.

Who took the vitals of this coon. Had it been pronounced dead by anyone qualified to pronounce a coon dead. May be it just fainted or learned how to play possum.
I wouldn't win a hunt with a dead coon myself. If I can't do it with pride I am not going to take the win. Now how I think it should go is minus strike points becouse it left the track it was running. After that I don't have a clue. If you are sure the coon is dead. LOL

Oakie, What rule would minus a dog for quitting, changing, or leaving a track?

Too much thinking

I had a judge warn to minus me for striking where there was no track evident once, so at the same point possibly he is saying minus the track because the coon didn't lay one.

Good question he never shut up so the 8 minutes wouldn't bother him. I guess I was just so upset becouse no body knows if the poor coon is dead or alive. LOL
Does anyone know what happens in a case like this. I would really like to know.

This was covered along time ago. The coon is dead. Unless there is a live coon seen in the same tree, you can't plus it. You score the tree as if there were no dead coon hung in the tree. You forget about the dead coon and look for one that could make a track, a LIVE COON. If the tree is slick, minus, if the tree is a legit circle, then circle it. If you can plus a dead coon, then scratch or minus for dead off game.................................

Thank you, it makes since. All but not minusing dead off game. A possom is a possom dead or alive. I would had thought you would scratch or minus for it.

Put the same coon 30 feet up, put the same coon in a hole with just its tail hanging out. In the original example did someone molest the animal to find out it was dead or alive?
Coon was struck, treed and seen. Should prolly be plussed too. I bet you a dollar the same judge would minus you if it was possum.

Since you can see the coon is dead and know for a fact that a dead coon can't make a track for a dog to run, did the dog really run that coon to the tree? Come on. It is simple. I do think if a dog messes with dead off game it should be minused or scratched. If the dog has the dead coon on the ground shaking it, I can't prove it didn't run it down and catch it. Plus strike points. If it trees a dead coon, I can prove it didn't catch it. It is dead hanging in a tree. No plus points unless their is another live coon in the tree. If no live coon, minus. If treeing a dead coon is worthy of plus points, I could hang dead coons where I guide and let my dog tree on them for a little while before the hunt. I bet you my dog would get first strike and first tree on every drop. And since there is a coon in the tree, I would get all plus points. Don't think that would fly when we got back to the club.

If I had my way about the rules your dog wouldn't get away with that. Becouse it would have to be broke from going back to a dead coon. I think there should be a recast rule too.

Now what a bout a dead coon on the ground and you can tell it has been dead for a while but you have a dog shakeing it. What do you do then?

I can't believe any of you would say to plus a dead coon. What a crock, that is without a doubt the funniest thing I have ever heard. Try to plus a dead coon with me in the cast and see how far it goes. I realize soem people will do almost anything to win but don't you think this is a little over the top?

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOURE DOG CATCHES A COON ON THE GROUND AND BRINGS IT BACK TO YOU IN A NITE HUNT? KEEP IN MIND THE DOG ISN'T STRUCK? WHAT HAPPENS?

Not scratched. Nothing happens which is my point, no, plus points will be awarded. Except for the fact that the dog is just sitting there chewing on the coon the 30 minute Non-Working dog rule would start and that dog better not sit there to long or it will be scratched.

See the whole point of a coon hunt is to see which dog can "strike" and tree the most coon. A dead coon hanging does not leave a track. Sure the rules say to plus it when a coon is seen but not a DEAD coon. If the dog has a good enough nose to wind it then good for it but it can't be plussed.

The only way to score it is jus like any other tree. Ignore the dead coon and start shinning the tree for another coon or a hole. If the tree is found to be slick then that dog is minused its strike and tree points.

How about an official ruling from Allen. Would that end this?
